Luckily, I have two outboards that I can swap parts back and forth for testing. I had an issue with the tachometer needle bouncing around and determined it was the rectifier/regulator. I ordered two of these and although they will charge the batteries, one has no signal output to the tachometer and the other makes the tach needle jump all over like the old, broken parts I am replacing. Another issue was two of the plug ends fell off immediately. These are poor quality parts.
