Sonora HD 1800 Rangefinder

When your hunt could bring anything from close-range deer to distant targets more than 1,000 yards away, your rangefinder needs the reach, accuracy, and durability to handle whatever the day demands. Three target modes. Two ranging modes. Tripod adaptable. Clear glass and 6x magnification balance a wide field of view and precise target ranging, ensuring you can spot and range even the smallest details and distant targets.

Target Mode Selection

normal

Normal Mode

The Sonora HD 1800 comes preset to Normal Mode. This is the standard mode providing the target’s range with the strongest range result. Normal Mode is the recommended target mode for most situations.

range finder

First Mode

This mode displays the closest distance when ranging. It is ideal for ranging a smaller target in front of other larger or more reflective objects.

hunting

Last Mode

This mode displays the farthest distance when ranging. It isideal for ranging a specific target behind a group of objects, such as rocks, trees, brush, etc.

Ranging & Ranging Mode Selection

archery

Scan

Activate the Scan feature by pressing and holding the “Measure” button. Keeping the button depressed will continuously measure as you pan back and forth across the target objects. “Scan” will flash in the upper right-hand corner of the display while scanning.

shooting

HCD Mode

The Horizontal Component Distance (HCD) range display is intended to be your primary mode, used for most rifle and archery shooting applications. The yardage number displayed is the critical horizontal component distance. The displayed HCD yardage is corrected for shot angle and needs no extra user input; shooters simply use the appropriate level ground drop for the range displayed. Archers use the appropriate level ground sight pin for the range displayed.

hunt

LOS Mode

The Line of Sight (LOS) Mode is intended for users who are using slope correcting ballistic drop data cards, ballistic cell phone applications, or other devices with ballistic programs and who are shooting at distances beyond 500 yards and with slopes greater than 15 degrees.

To use, simply input the LOS range number into the electronic device or use the LOS range when referencing ballistic drop cards with slope correction.

First impressions on Vortex Sonora HD 1800...So, this is my first ever range finder. I own other Vortex products and am generally satisfied with them. I like their warranty and have been in touch with customer service in the past who treated me well.I was comparing this Vortex Sonora HD 1800 to the Sig Sauer Kilo 2800, and I like Sig Sauer, they have plenty of my money! But the Kilo 2800 although only $10 more had the BDX system which looks super cool, but the scopes required to use that are a little expensive, and the Vortex had a tripod mount I thought would be nice to have where Sig didn't.So... unpacked the Vortex Sonora HD 1800 and immediately found it difficult to see anything, I had to take off my glasses and eventually pretty much had it "in my eye". I got it into focus more or less then checked the web for eye relief... hum only 15mm (nothing and I had not paid attention to this detail), so I looked at the eye relief for the Sig... hum... says 17mm so also pretty much equivalent to zero in my book.I then installed the battery in the Vortex (now I have not yet read the instructions, just pushing buttons) got it turned on and saw the readings, but they were blurry... put readings in focus and image / target is blurry.I do have myopia and astigmatism so it may well be me but keep this in mind if you suffer similar issues. In the end I am going to keep this, it is better than walking around with a tape measure. I primarily purchased it to use in conjunction with a laser bore sighter and get the distance to my target. That is all. Good luck and a shout out to the lucky people with good eyesight!
