I recently made the decision to get some pet mice, but as a first time mouse owner, I was very curious about things to get them. For exercise wheels, I heard horror stories about other ones with slots that feet could get stuck, tails could get trapped, and general uncomfortable situations that I, as a first time owner, was unsure about. Enter the Ware Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel. It had good reviews generally, seemed like it would be quiet, and didn't have holes in it. The price is was fairly decent, so I took the leap and got it.What I found is that out of the three females, two of them love it! The third doesn't seem to really care, but I'm chalking it up to her personality as I guess she enjoys eating more then exercise. The other two have no problems running and have tested it at different speeds. One generally lightly jogs on it, probably training for distance running, and the other sprints on it, obviously training for the 100m Dash. The wheel itself spins great and is quiet to the point where it's a non issue, but you can tell your little friend is on it. Certainly not a bother at all. The color I received was purple, it does say colors may vary, so if that's an issue be aware. It wasn't for me.Cleaning is easy and I have yet to experience any sort of problems with it. All in all, for my first experience with a "safer" wheel I'm giving it max stars because it does exactly what it needed to do, is simple to clean, and obviously works like a charm.

Edit: some wheels come with a plastic rod now which wears down as they run making the wheel hard to spin for a dwarf hamsterThis is a great wheel for Roborovski hamsters. It has 3 parts, a tilted top, flat bottom plastic base with a small metal rod sticking up from the center, a plastic cover that 1)goes over the metal rod and 2)inserts into a hole in the bottom of the saucer, and of course, the third part - the saucer. It's very easy to wash and maintain. It's a rigid plastic. The top of the saucer has a smooth convex center and the saucer has little spiral ridges from the center to the rim so the hamsters can get a good grip while they run like the wind. The solid surface makes it very safe for any animal to run on without the fear of broken tails, legs, or toes.Hamsters do tend to fly off of centrifuge to the center when they stop running but this never seems to bother or hurt them. The 5-inch wheel is perfect for young robos to run on, but I'd suggest a 7½-inch wheel for the adult robos or any other dwarf hamster. When my adult runs on the 5-inch his front feet are constantly right up to the upper edge of the saucer which causes him to fall of more frequently, whereas his 7½-inch wheel he has plenty of space and only tends to fly off when he gets going too fast. Plus the 7½-inch has more room for when the young robo wants to sit in the middle and let his brother take him for a ride. Very lazy fellow...Super safe, super easy to clean. I use Dawn, hot water, and a dedicated hamster toy dishcloth. Make sure you immediately dry the metal post to avoid any rust that may occur (shouldn't but it doesn't say what type of metal it is)

I have two campbell dwarf hamsters and I found that even with their little bodies, this saucer seems a bit small and cramped (okay, maybe it's just me feeling the need to spoil my pets). I would definitely go with a bigger size that the same manufacture makes but this seemed to work fine too.It is VERY quiet and much quieter than the other 3 wheels I own. If you're looking to keep your hamster in your bedroom at night, this is probably the best alternative to a wheel since I find that all "silent" wheels are still loud when spun. Perhaps this is because I own Critter Trail cages so maybe it has something to do with the cage pieces put together which creates a rattle. However, the saucer takes up space and if you are looking to save space in the cage, this may not be the best choice. This saucer is completely safe for dwarf hamsters, they are able to run freely without worrying about their little hands and feet getting stuck in a wire mesh or openings! However, I did think this product was going to come in green but received BLUE instead. I'm not exactly sure what that's about but I have a feeling it's the seller's fault and obviously not the manufacture's fault.

Our mousie has this, and she tends to wake up about 8pm and run on it throughout the night. Very nice and still quiet even months after purchase. You can hear it a little bit, but the sound is more reassuring than distracting, and we have no problems falling asleep while she runs. A bit of veg. oil I suspect on the parts would eliminate the noise entirely. It's foot- and tail-safe, for the most part. The exception to this is related to the one major flaw of the item- the mouse moves it around with ease! When she shifts it too close to a wall, it is quite noisy, and she's trapped her tail between the wall and the wheel once or twice, as indignant squeaks prove. We finally managed to find a spot she's content with, and she'll spend her out-of-den time running between it and her house and cardboard tube. Peace and quiet and safe tails all around.Overall a great wheel, and we're really happy with it. Just plan on finding a way to stick it to the bottom of your cage or prevent it being moved and you're set. :)

I was worried my Dwarf Hamster would be too large for this since people using this have been using it for mice. Well, I wish I had a video review for you because my my little Toby looks so funny running around on this. Also, I feel safe with him using this because there are no rungs his little paws can get stuck in. Also the sound isn't bad at all. It is pretty quite and again every fun to watch your hamster having a ball on this! This would be good for Dwarf Hamsters or mice but, I believe you would want the next size up if you have a Teddy Bear, Golden or hamster of those sizes.
