Insulation is not split along its length. What I'm insulating has been installed so I had to cut this, install it then glue it back together. I would think most pipe to be insulated would be installed.

Local big box store does not carry larger sizes. Order early because shipping is from China

It does the job of protecting car door from hitting a garage jack post, but is quite different than what you would purchase at a local home improvement store. It is a tube with no longetudinal cut nor adhesive to close the cut after installing on a pipe. It cuts easily with scissors as it is a very soft foam.I used 3M 888 duct tape to wrap and hold the insulation around the pipe. When I needed to pull the tape off due to folding on itself, it ripped off pieces of the soft foam no matter how slowly and carefully I tried to remove the tape. This does work to prevent scratching my car door, but it is a very different product than what can be sourced locally. However, I could not find pipe insulation locally for 3" diameter pipe, so this is what I found, and it works well enough, and is not expensive.

I've got 3" steel supports in my basement, 4 of which unfortunately surround my Brunswick pool table. This resulted in many dings on my nice pool cue. Just got a new beautiful cue and didn't want dings on it. These fit perfectly and are a nice squishy rubbery foam, not cheap feeling foam like a pool noodle. I had to slit it all the way down with scissors and tape back, used Gorilla duct tape. Works great and looks pretty nice. Shipping is slow bit was accurately estimated.

OK ... nothing magic about this pipe insulation, but you just can't find big sizes (2", 3", 4" diameter) in the box stores. Took a while to get it here, but that wasn't a problem. Actually, we used it to cover steel posts that serve as uprights for kids' basketball backboard/hoop. Works fine ... MUCH better price than the commercial covers made particularly for this purpose. Probably some other useful adaptations you can think up for this insulation.
