The directions for set up could have been a little larger. My old eyes had a hard time reading them.

The outdoor temperature reading stopped working after a few months but then I messed with it different times and it's working again.

I bought this to replace an older model when the outside unit died. $20+ to replace the sending unit. Another $20 gets a whole new display with easy to read numbers. Old one had black LED characters on an unlit background. There's a large variety of options as to character size and location of readouts on these weather stations. My focus was on finding one big enough to see, but not so big that it was in the way. This can be read from any point in a large room. Provides lots of information and it's also a very capable night light. Shuts down at 3 am every night for a few minutes to calibrate time. I like it! Would recommend to others

We bough this to have a simple informal (low labor) source of local indoor temp, humidity, and BAROMETRIC PRESSURE. Most basic units don't display pressure, this one does. Some other reviewers have faulted this unit's accuracy on pressure. We are located half way between (about 30 miles each) two regional airports that report "official" pressure. For now every week or so we will grab them, average them, and compare to the unit. I'll post an update when we have done that for a couple months. So good so far in 1 week's use.

I have long owned a large, easy to read, battery powered digital clock/indoor-outdoor thermometer that's been mounted on my bathroom wall so I would know 'what to dress for' before going to work each day in an outside job. When one of my friends' digital alarm clocks failed just before her birthday several months ago, I was thinking along the lines of something similar, but nothing that simple was available. So, I bought something that showed time, indoor outdoor temperatures and humidity as well as moon phase, barometer, and even a visual weather forecast. She loved it!So, as a Christmas present for myself, I decided I'd get one for my bedroom and mount it to the wall 3 feet from my bedside so I could see it when I woke up several times during the night as usual as well as in the morning. I looked at getting the same as hers but then recalled it didn't have a 'dim' lighting setting while plugged in and would only go dark - but remain readable in a lit room - when the power was off and it was running on a battery. None of the other comparable units of that brand had a dim setting either. So, I decided to look at the offerings from the same brand as my trusty old one in my bathroom. I ended up on buying a $50 model that offered a single dim setting and mounted it to my bedroom wall. I didn't realize it at the time, but the time of day numbers were surprisingly small compared to the rest of the display, AND, it only had a single dim setting while plugged in. In my dark bedroom, it was simply too bright and shining in my face from 4-5 feet away all night. After a short time, I decided I couldn't live with the brightness and the small time of day readout, so I returned it and went back to my search. My biggest problem with the unit? The outdoor temperature was anywhere from 1 to 8 degrees high or low, depending on the temperature outdoors (about 33, it was accurate) compared to the two other outdoor thermometers I have. The indoor temperature was usually within 3-4 degrees compared to an old-fashioned red liquid thermometer also in my bedroom. I should note that I live in New England and like a very cold bedroom.I ended up buying this weather station for its larger, easier to read time of day AND its 4 dimming settings while plugged in! In those respects, it is the best of the best, as I looked at every model of every vendor on Amazon before deciding on this one!But...There's a couple of design issues that I take issue with. In particular, their engineering department failed in a number of respects. Obviously, they're neither rocket scientists nor do/did they ever use the product at home. The first thing I noticed upon unpacking it was the non-flat backside of the unit. That had been noted in the prior reviews, so I was willing to overlook that. As the unit is intended for table-top use with or without a battery, the wider bottom half puts more weight there and therefore reduces the likelihood of it falling over. So that makes sense. Perhaps they should have included little snap-in 'feet' instead and gone with a flat back panel to allow flush wall mounting. The next step was to insert batteries in the outdoor sensor and take it outdoors. I was surprised by the 'tab' sticking out the back at the bottom of the removable battery compartment cover to make it easier to open or perhaps to allow it to 'stand up' on its own...OUTDOORS! Either way, it absolutely should not be there! As evidenced by the 2 other outdoor temperature sensors I have mounted on an inside wall of my screen porch, the should lay flat against the wall. So, I sawed off the stupid tab. What were they thinking?Putting the batteries in the main unit was easy enough as was plugging it in while still in my living room to 'set it up'. The instructions are brief, but adequate. The only 'trick' is to know that setting the clock and date, each position (digit) takes an additional push of the 2nd button down from the top on the right side. One also has to set the time zone based on number of hours from GMT - Greenwich Mean Time. They provide a quick chart to know what to set based on EST, CST, etc. It'll be interesting to see how it handles the switch to daylight saving time. Once set up, I put it on my bedroom wall. I should note that it has only one mounting hole top center in the rear, vs 2 on my previous unit as well as my friends. The next design problem I have is the plug in connection between the wire from the 110v transformer and the back of the unit. It has a right angle to it. BUT...given that there's an indent area in the lower right hand rear of the unit (the thick part) and the socket is 'top mounted' on the indent requires the plug to be inserted vertically. So, the wire has to come out of the side of the unit or stick out the back making it more oblique to the wall! Fortunately, there's enough room at the bottom of the indent that I managed to bend the wire and tape it so it goes out the bottom. Why? Coming out the right side makes the whole thing cockeyed on my wall with its one mounting hole! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?????I'm glad I am not using it as an alarm clock as my friend does. Why? The location of all the buttons are along the right hand side of the unit. EIGHT (8) all together in a single line, each about 3/8" in diameter. The top two are for dimming and setup, the rest, I haven't bothered with as I have no intention of using it as an ALARM clock. Think for a second...You've just been awakened from sleep by a beeping alarm clock and want to turn it off...WHICH button do you have to locate to do that? Oh...according to the directions, touching the top of the unit will activate the 'snooze' function for some period of time. As an alarm clock, I'd give this an F minus. Having moderate-to-severe hearing loss (I'm retired), I use an obnoxiously loud, red light flashing, bed shaking alarm clock.Next, for some reason, at exactly 1AM, or 2AM, or 3AM maybe all three times, the entire unit goes dark for about 2 minutes and then comes back on like nothing happened. I haven't been awake at more than one of those times each night, so I don't know if it happens every hour or not. Even on it's dimmest setting where I keep it and with my eyes closed in half-sleep/half-awake mode, the change in room darkness is noticeable and I end up looking at the clock. I'm guessing that's when it does it's satellite 'time check' to ensure it is keeping proper time. Maybe it gets weather forecast updates at those times as well.Lastly, the 'weather forecast' portion of the screen is usually 'out in left field'. It can be raining and it shows sunny or partly cloudy which won't happen within the next 24 hours. Or it can show partly cloudy and it's pouring buckets or snowing hard. I figure it's right about 20% of the time or less. Perhaps its forecast is based on time zone, so all of the eastern time zone gets one forecast, or something like that. Otherwise, it would have to triangulate its location and read a nearby NOAA weather radio transmitter station to get it right. Now you know why I didn't give it 5 stars. But I DO consider it the best of the $40-50 units currently available on Amazon. Would I recommend it to a friend? I'd first warn them of the shortcomings I've noticed and suggest they look through Amazon on their own.

After the first 24 hours it randomly shuts off so the time is off which makes it impossible to use the alarm. When on it is accurate for temp outside & inside. I received an email from Panda, James, I guess they read the reviews. The first response offered 2 options #1take a cash refund for $30,I paid $40 + or another thermometer, however to get the cash refund I had to change my review to 5 stars & they said at the time of my purchase they had a special going & that was why I was only entitled to a $30 refund. When I questioned them about the lower $ refund I was told that IF I CHANGED MY REVIEW TO 5 STARS I would be refunded $40.& some cents. They now are saying that by sending me a new thermometer the issue wouldn't be resolved, all I have to do change a setting on it & the time would be right, the reason the time is off & we can't use the alarm is because it keeps shutting off. I have decided I don't want to be bullied into changing my review to get a refund. So we will keep it & not get what we paid for. I do not recommend this company which is from China or Japan. I don't like being lied to or bullied into doing something. I responded to them with my decision & the response was that they were waiting for me to respond so we decided to just keep what we had although it only worked about 1/4 of the time rather then being forced to say something I didn't mean. I have pictures of all of the emails & will be contacting Amazon.
