Wow, awesome product.

Bought this to mod my Playstation and Xbox controllers. The Desoldering unit is great. The soldering wand is a little weird. The tip heats up at certain parts or angles. Like the very tip of it heats up but didn't melt some of the solder but when I pressed it at an angle, then it melted the solder. Maybe I'm using it wrong? I dunno. Over all, worked for what I needed it for.

This is a great product at a very good price point. Saves a lot of trouble in desoldering and the soldering iron it top notch quality too. Both heat up very fast. Desoldering gun is super easy to clean and change out. Very good product.

Giving this a 3 out of 5 due to it working great but it generates a ton of hash noise due to it's crappy power supply design. So much noise on am radio trying to repair them. Have to turn off just to test because noise is so bad.

I finally purchased a desoldering tool with a vacuum pump. It works great. The spring filter will clog up as expected (solder has to go somewhere). I worked in a commercial facility testing boards and rework was part of the job. The commercial desoldering tools regularly need the solder removed. This unit is constructed a little differently and I was not sure how to clean the spring. I had the idea to use my heat gun to heat up the spring filters to remove the solder. Using a pair of pliers to hold the edge of the wire spring and heating with the heat gun worked great.

This WEP 948D III soldering/desoldering station is really good. After calibration, it holds temperature really well and while the desoldering tips are fairly limited, the four that are provided work for the vast majority of what one would want. And on the topic of soldering/desoldering tips.It becomes apparent fairly quickly that the soldering iron tips are not the normal 900M tips. They are actually 902 tips, something that's fairly hard to come by. It's also unclear if there are other desoldering tips available. Further, while the manual indicates that the heater modules in both the handpiece and the desoldering gun are replaceable, it is unclear where one might purchase the replacements. As far as I can tell, purchasing a replacement for the entire handpiece or gun is the only way to replace the heater modules. And this brings me to the biggest problem with this device.WEP provides no support. None at all. There is a paper in the box that says how to contact support, but there is never any response. I've tried. Ask about additional tips? Nothing. Ask about purchasing heating elements? Nothing. It's unclear if WEP is even a real company rather than one of those randomly generated Chinese names. WEP does have a website, but it has much less information than Yihua's website. And why do I mention Yihua?Digging around online, it's become apparent that the Yihua 948D III is the same device and Yihua does seem to provide tips and parts...sort of. If you search on Amazon, there is a limited selection of tips for the soldering handpiece. They're on the Yihua Amazon store under Parts and Accessories. There are also replacement tips for the 948DN desoldering gun, although only the same ones that were provided in the kit. Heaters? Not there. The replacement handpiece for the 948D-III is available, though, as is a replacement for the desoldering gun. That's something anyway.Oddly, Yihua has various websites. Yes, that's plural. Depending upon which website one visits, the 948D III might or might not be presented as a product. Interestingly, there are even fewer replacement parts listed on their website(s) than in their Amazon store. Even stranger, the handpiece tips, those 902 tips, actually do have more options than the five or so that Yihua advertises on Amazon, but the only way to find them is to search for "Yihua 902" on AliExpress. Still, that only gives one a selection of 9 tips, many fewer than the 900M tip options. Also, don't bother searching for "WEP 902"; you just get the 5-pack that Yihua offers on Amazon.Yihua's 902 tips? I tried them on the WEP handpiece and they fit perfectly. For that matter, the markings on the tips are exactly the same as the ones provided in the WEP package.Honestly, I'm reasonably satisfied with the WEP station itself and it certainly gets the job done, but due to all of the issues with getting support, parts, and tips I really think this is going to be a short longevity item. Sadly, I'm likely to go back to something in the Hakko line. Hakko is *much* more expensive, but at least they provide accessories and their support answers questions. Maybe a nice Hakko FM-206 (also available on Amazon) for Christmas...

When it works it's nice. But because it turns itself off so quickly it allows clogs to form in the gun that are solder and even bits of the ceramic soldering element spacers falling apart.I tried having it not sitting vertically in it's stand which helped it clog a little less frequently but it still does and I have at times even needed to drill out the clogs they are so bad. But the gun heating element keeps falling apart so it gets a little less hot.The gun units seem to only last about 3 months of regular use. I keep having to replace them even with regular cleaning.I hope to try to disable the auto turn off to see if that solves it. Since the clogs happen when it does this.
