Works great so far. Hasn't been long yet, but I love it. Plus, it comes with two extra replacement wires for when the wire that comes with it wears out.

Mom’s old handheld slicer broke after decades of use. They don’t make things like they used to. Most things anyway. So I found this as a semi close replacement.

First of all it was the right size, nice and wide so it could handle 5 lb "Costco-sized" mozzarella blocks. Wire also cut well. It went downhill from there.Third time I used it the wire broke. They provided several replacement wires but I didn't think I would need to replace it after only cutting maybe 50 slices of cheese. I had to find a very small screwdriver to remove the first wire, which I did. I tried for literally 20 minutes to get the new wire in place and I couldn't. It kept winding on itself, etc. Replacement wire installation instructions were either oversimplified or incomplete.Since the wire was installed in the first place, obviously it could be replaced, but I couldn't figure out how. Not worth my time. I finally gave up and threw it out. At this stage of my life I don't need the aggravation. I am now using a curved 14" long pizza cutter blade to cut the cheese. It is not as consistent but it is pretty easy and sure won't break.

I have arthritis, so I needed something that was comfortable and easy to use. This fit the bill. I think the upgrade handle was worth it for the comfort factor. It was kind of expensive, and I didn’t love the idea that I couldn’t put it in the dishwasher, but I have another Westmark gadget (olive pitter) that has served me very well for several years, so I thought this might be worth the inconvenience of handwashing. So far, I think it is. It seems very sturdy, and I think it will last. Sometimes, even with simple tools like this, you get what you pay for.

Outstanding Cheese Slicer. I have had one of these for years and years. Picked one up on a trip to Europe many years ago. So many years ago that my original model is marked "Western Germany" so you know that has been around a while!. The German name for this device is "Rollschnitt". After any years of use, the cheese-cutting wire broke. I was thinking about replacing that wire with a used metal guitar string. I have tried other rolling type cheese cutters and none worked as well as my original Rollschnitt. The cheese would stick to another model which had a big fat roller. With this cheese slicer the cheese is nicely sliced without having to pry pieces of cheese off the roller.I did a search on Amazon for "rollshcnitt" and to my amazement this device came up. I ordered it and it arrived today. It is made by the same maker as my original rollschnitt. The handle on the new model is nicer and even better it is packaged with two replacement cheese-cutting wires! Otherwise the design seems to be identical to my old rollschnitt that worked so well for many years. I am happy that they didn't mess with a great design. Used it this afternoon, and it worked like a charm (as I expected it would). Wonderful device.
