  • 2.With the axel shaft in place, start the locknut by hand to avoid cross threading
  • 3.Attach a ratchet, breaker bar or torquewrench and tighten the locknut.
  • 4.Torque the locknut according to the manufacturer's specifications.

If you intend to work on the larger, HD PU trucks with or without 4x4 you will want to have a set of sockets like these. They are made of stamped sheet steel and are strong enough for the intended purpose. The case is perfect for keeping the sockets organized and your toolbox space free as you can just set these on a shelf.

We have a new cordless ½” impact driver, and these locknut sockets fit it and work great. I was a little concerned when I first saw that the ½” drive hole is in a piece of flat bar welded to the back of the socket. But after taking a good look at it they are quite thick and strong and welded to the sockets nicely. I don’t normally put much if any torque on those wheel bearing locknuts so the rounded edges should be fine. I’m really happy to have these in all of the normal sizes, and think that the price for the set was very affordable. The sockets come in a nice molded plastic case that has good closures.
