Whiteside Machine Company was founded in 1970 as a general purpose machine shop in the basement of Bill & Bobbie Whiteside's home. Located in Western North Carolina near the furniture manufacturing town of Hickory, the company was often involved in making repairs or special parts for the furniture and woodworking field. A strong commitment to customer problem-solving, a can-do attitude, and innovative ideas, along with a growing core of dedicated employees, helped the business evolve into a manufacturer of woodworking equipment and tooling. Primarily through repeat business and referrals, the tooling business continued to grow to meet a demand for quality production router bits as well as custom application tooling. Today, Whiteside Machine occupies a 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and produces a complete line of solid carbide and carbide tipped router bits. This 1/2-in shaft templating bit cuts nicely, cleanly, and with no burning. I wouldn't characterize it as great plunge bit, but it is huge so you go slow with the plunge and all is well. I cut highly figured mahoghany with no issues. Typical Whiteside quality I've come to expect. I go for Whiteside now, even when they're not necessarily the cheapest option.

Using this to cut 1:12 scarf joints in plywood and hardwoods. Exceptional smooth cut with the bottom of the bit. Really does the job as well as could be hoped for, leaves an almost ready to glue surface.

This is my first truly good router bit, and I am very glad to be done wasting my money on crap bits. If you plan on doing any significant woodworking, you should invest in good bits like this.
