This thing always gets some questions when I pull it out. People ask me which chemistry lab I stole it from, but the jokes subside when they taste how well it decants wine. It really does a fantastic job!This is meant more for doing a glass or two at once, the decanting bottle is high quality but quite small. Even half a bottle of wine felt a little bit much for the small amount of air getting in. If you have a larger/wider decanting glass with a fairly flat bottom, you can just use the magnet and base and be able to decant larger quantities. This is what I do when I want to decant a whole bottle, and although it is a bit jimmy-rigged it is effective.I really like that you can use 2x AA batteries to power this, the cordless look is nice as is the ability to move it effortlessly. The USB power option is a nice fallback in case the batteries run out of charge.Overall I'm very pleased with this kit, the size of it seems geared more towards a solo wine drinker than a group. If you know a true aficionado, I'm sure they'd love to add this device to their tool kit. The base is not the most premium, but the decanting glass itself is beautiful and overall would make a great gift.

Over the years, we've collected a number of different devices to aerate wine. A few were purchased, and even more have been given to us as a present. The fact is, we keep our wine aerators together in a separate section of a dining room drawer. A few of these are made by Vinturi, Rabbit, Vinabon, Vinvoli, Houdini, and the list goes on. We also have several very nice wine decanters. I can't even remember the last time I used an aerator. I used a decanter about a year ago for a holiday meal.The Casara "Wine Decanter with Electric Swirling Base" caught my attention because I've never seen this decanting process before -- and, frankly, it looked like it would be fun.Further, since I would frequently conduct taste tests as a project in my graduate school classes on research methods, I decided to conduct a little test using the Casara decanter. The subjects, eight adults (ages mid-30s though mid-60s), were friends and family. I used the same red wine (type, brand, and vintage), same amount and settings on the electric decanter, same type of glasses, and so on. I did not tell the subjects about the true purpose of the test, only that I wanted them to taste two small glasses of wine and identify the one they preferred. One glass was marked "A" and another was marked "B" -- and the markings varied for different subjects (I kept a record of differences by subject). One glass had the decanted wine, the other came straight from the bottle soon after opening.The results surprised me. All eight of the subjects preferred the decanted wine over the undecanted. And it wasn't even close, based on the reasons they gave for choosing the decanted wine. Then I explained the purpose of the test and gave a demonstration -- which added to the fun, since some subjects thought they were drinking two different brands of wine.I added four photos. Two show the decanter on the low setting, and the one where the wine is highly agitated is on the high setting. It's a nice set with an attractive decanter. Very creative approach to decanting. More importantly, it's both fun and effective.

The idea of this decanter is fun but it just didn't hit the mark for me. First, the decanter itself is very, very small. I don't typically decant wine unless I'm doing a full bottle and it would be very full to do a whole bottle, which kind of defeats the purpose of letting it breathe. You want your wine to have surface area to the air and a full bottle would go to the neck, and then no amount of magnetic stirring is going to get enough air in to make it work. The little spinner is kind of fun, but as soon as I turned it on my friends and I agreed it felt like we were back in the chemistry lab in college stirring up solutions. I'd probably leave these one as too gimmicky for my taste.

My first impression was that this product feels very light. I don't think the construction of the base is very high-quality, and I'm not sure how long it will last or function. The decanter container itself seems well-made. There are two speeds, and both seem sufficient for the bottles of red that I was tasting. It can be powered by batteries, but I used the wired option. It is USB-based, but does not include a wall block so you will need to provide that if you don't already have one. Overall, a good experience for the few times that I have used it so far.

This is one of those products that you don't really "need" per se, but if you are a wine enthusiast, you are going to WANT it. It's truly a cool product - and a great conversation piece. If you are reading this, you probably already know what a decanter does so I won't go into that other than to say that this one works really, really well. The swirling base is super cool and decants your wine absolutely perfectly.The rest of the unit is beautiful too, really - nice thick, hand blown glass that looks super elegant on your bar. It's either USB or battery powered, so you can have it on a display shelf without needing wires everywhere too.If you need the perfect gift for a wine enthusiast or someone who loves gadgets...this is sure to be a hit. We love ours and are definitely going to be purchasing another for a friend. I highly recommend this decanter - it's awesome!
