This instrument is a handheld cable testing tool. Applicable cable types have increased, more functions, wider application, is a necessary test tool for telecommunications engineers, cabling engineers, network maintenance personnel, etc.
MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Wire-seeking function: through the transmitter can seek RJ11, RJ45 and other metal wires. Seeking cable lines, without stripping the outer skin of the line, simple, fast, and can discern the location of the line breakpoint
- Line pair function: can detect the line sequence of the network cable, break, short circuit, wrong pair, reverse connection.

Telephone line status detection:（Only use transmitter to detect.）
The operation method to determine TIP or RING line:
Rotate to“TONE” function position--Connect the RJ11 interface-- clip the red and black clips to the telephone line:
I.“TONE”indicator is Red：the Red clip end is TIP line，the Black clip end is RING line;
II.“TONE” indicator is Green:the Red clip end is RING line,the Black clip end is TIP line
Determine the idle, ringing, and off-hook status of the telephone line during work:
Rotate to“TONE” function position-Connect the RJ11 interface-the Red clip is clipped onto the RING line, and the Black clip is clipped onto the TIP line:
I.“TONE”indicator is green:the telephone line is Idle;
II.“TONE” indicator is not lit: the telephone line is Off-hook;
III.“TONE”indicator is bright green or red: the telephone line is Ringing
Wire Continuity Detection
Only use the transmitter, you can detect the connection status of the line:
- a) Turn the knob of the transmitter to the "CONT" position, and the transmitter starts to work;
- b) Then connect the RJ11 interface converter to the RJ11 port of the transmitter, and clamp the red and black clips to both ends of the line to be tested;
- c) If the "Cont" light is on, the line is continuous.

Lost my good tracer kit and needed one quick for a job, so that part worked out ok.But don't expect it to last - basically disposable kit.Came with batteries, though

Tone is a low buzz. I thought the batteries were dead, but that's all you get. If you have several cables running near each other (like at your switch) you will hear tone on all the the good cables. My first use was debugging a POE camera system. None of the Ethernet cables were labeled at the POE switch. I unplug one, connect to the tone generator and grab my ladder and go tot he fist camera. I get tone. Since there were 10 cameras, I'm thinking, I'm not that lucky. So I climb down and go to the next camera. Tone. So I try in the other direction, I attach the tone generator at the camera and go back to the switch. Tone on every line. Going to try & contact support.

Does not tone the wand works with other toners. So basically useless with locating wires. Tried reaching out and nonresponse. Feels cheap and possibly a returned item that was resold.

Can’t get the screws out without stripping the head so no I wouldn’t buy this because you can’t get the battery in to use I can’t even get a tone out of it

This is the 2nd of these units that I have purchased. I ruined the first one (user error) and bought this one as a replacement. It works very well for testing cables to make sure they are properly made. However, the toning function does not work on this one at all. It worked fine on my first unit, but when I set this one to "tone" it does not transmit a tone at all, so when I'm trying to trace a single network cable among 25 of them, it is completely useless. Unfortunately, I didn't discover this until after the return period had passed. I like the design of the tester, it comes with a nice case, and lots of accessories (some of which are useless if it doesn't work right!). It is better than some of the other cheaper testers I have used, but in this case, I got a dud.
