Works well for 1 Betta and a big snail. The light is way too much and creates too much algae. I leave it off with natural light only. Bought live plants that attached to provided lava rock well. Thanks

I was initially skeptical about the potential of a 3-gallon aquarium, fearing it might not offer a realistic or sustainable environment. However, I've been pleasantly surprised! With careful planning and adherence to stocking guidelines, this compact aquarium has proven to be a thriving ecosystem. The inclusion of volcanic rock and dragon stones is a thoughtful touch. These elements not only enhance the aesthetics but also provide a vast surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize, contributing to water quality. While a thermometer would have been a welcome addition, I easily acquired one separately to ensure optimal temperature stability for my temperature-sensitive neocaridina shrimp. The full-spectrum light has been a game-changer, nurturing the growth of my low-tech plants. Together, the plants and hardscape have transformed the aquarium into a miniature paradise for my fish. It's a testament to how attention to detail and informed choices can create a flourishing underwater world, even within a modest space. It's important to note that, as with any aquarium, regular maintenance is essential. The frequency of maintenance will depend on factors such as the number of fish or shrimp and the duration of light exposure, as this influences algae growth and the need for glass cleaning. In my case, I've opted for heavy planting and minimal stocking to minimize maintenance requirements.

As an experienced aquarist with over a decade in the hobby, I was initially drawn to this 3-gallon tank by its sleek design and convenient swivel base. The inclusion of substrate, plants, and cleaning tools makes it a great starter kit for beginners, eliminating the need for separate purchases (except a heater and automatic feeder). The hidden self-cleaning filtration system is an intriguing feature. While it may not completely eliminate the need for regular maintenance, it has the potential to reduce the frequency of water changes when combined with a balanced ecosystem. By adding an automatic feeder, heater, and light timer, the primary maintenance task could become simply topping off evaporated water. One suggestion for improvement would be to replace the acrylic top with glass. Glass is more scratch-resistant and easier to clean, preventing the buildup of unsightly water evaporation marks.Overall, this aquarium offers a unique combination of aesthetics, convenience, and has potential for reduced maintenance, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced aquarists with careful planning and stocking.

I ordered and used this aquarium for 3 months. This fish tank has undergravel filter, which gets full of bad stuff after couple of months and you can't clean it. The tank will end up with dangerous level of nitrates and your fish will start suffer, stop eating and eventually slow die. To get right of nitrates you will need another filer on top of the tank, but it is too small to add anything extra to it. And changing even 50% of water every week won't help.Another reason do not buy it, the tank is too small for ant type of fish. Even you have tiny fish, they like to be in company and will suffer alone. Order normal tank minimum 10 gallons with normal hang on the back motor filter. We ordered 20 gallons and now we have 10 happy glowfish tetras in it. Instead of 2 slow sick almost dead fish in 3 gallon tiny tank with undergravel filter, with was used during 1970s...Please, please, if you don't want your fish to suffer and die, do not buy this one.We also lost one small glowfish in that tiny 3 gallons tank, because it stuck behind the heater, which was included in this bundle, due the lack of space...

I bought this so I could have a shrimp tank next to my bed. It's not like I already have 8 fish tanks... but that's for another day! I love how it thoughtfully comes with rocks, aqua scaping rocks, a cleaning kit, light and a soft fake plant. The soft fake plant was a nice touch for betta owners so their delicate fins do not get ripped. (I do not personally condone putting a betta in this small of an aquarium but I know people will do it regardless!) The light is also on the cool spectrum so it can grow plants but it can grow algae even better. The silicone job is an eh kind of job. You can tell it's there because the glass is being held but at the same time if it ever leaks in the future it wouldn't be a big problem to fix. The tank is small enough that you can clean the silicone off the panels and reseal it if ever necessary without much of a struggle. But the two things that are bugging me is that the glass came scratched from the inside and that the undergravel filter pump is not serviceable! Meaning - there is no way to get the pump out to clean the impeller which you will inevitably have to do. It will get clogged with mulm, hair algae and whatever else debris ends up getting to it and it will stop working. There is absolutely no way to access it unless you break apart the plastic bottom insert it comes in which will render it useless. Not to mention you would be tearing apart your whole tank just to "attempt" to access it.Also - if you use the included light - look into getting a smart plug or timer and set it to 8 hours a day. It could even be spread 4 hours in the morning and 4 at night - whatever works best for you. Try and plan it around when you would personally be there to enjoy the tank. You will thank me later. My advice is if you want this tank - DO NOT USE the undergravel filter. Don't even put the insert in the tank - take the whole bottom panel out. There will be only stress if you leave it in - I can assure you of that! Use a sponge filter, a hold on back filter or even NO filter. Enjoy your tank. Enjoy your little slice of nature and beauty without having to worry about an unserviceable pump bothering you in the future.
