I'm the rear-end. I assumed these were made in America. The description of an American company provide quality tools.I should have went European and save $ for quality steel.

I wanted a small nice looking set of butt chassis to add to my chisel set, decided on this set, very nice looking, seemed OK for sharpness, however if you like your cutting tools razor Sharpe ( I do) you may need to work on these a little, great otherwise

Quickly shipped. Nice box. A little pricey. Now to the more important factors:Handles are good, well fitted, but I will probably rough them up with some finer grit sand paper to aid me in gripping them. I work in a shop without air conditioning… The hardness of the wood handle are excellent for their intended, appropriate use, & the handle shape fits well “in the hand.”The metal was flat on the back, requiring little effort on a 400/1000 diamond stone, with a few extra leather strop strokes for good measure:I spent about 5 minutes per chisel back, which speaks well of how flat the chisels were “straight out of the box.”On the other side, the bevels could have been machined a little better with a bit finer grind, but they were good enough & consistently angled. I spent about 20 minutes per chisel bevel tuning them, & all “cut paper” to demonstrate they were sharp enough. I used the same 400/1000 diamond, on the bevels as on be backs, then another couple minutes each on a strop charged with 6000 grit then about a minute each on plain leather “to shine them up.”Their steel appears to be as good of quality as the Robert Sorby I paid as much for as the whole set of four butt chisels, (of course, the Sorby is twice as long, is a paring chisel, & is legendary), so it all balances out in the end.In any event, the four chisel butt set is excellent, & I would rate it a 9 on a scale of 10. I took one point off because the handles are not a 10 for me, & the steel, although very good, could be a little harder. All in all an excellent set & a fine addition to my woodworking tools.

The Chisels look and feel very nice and sharpen OK but the backs are not very flat. The 3/4" one has a rounded side near the cutting end which is visible in the photo, the edge is sharp but just below the tip the side is rounded. It will take some grinding to get the back flat all the way across for an inch.

These are awesome chisels. Came out of the box sharp and are comfortable in your hand. Not to mention, they're beautiful

I like these chisels a lot. They are comfortable and well made. Because they came in a wooden storage box with locations for each chisel and with chisel guards, the chisels are protected and looking new. They are great for paring and allow you to perform detail work with ease. Getting these chisels lapped and sharp once you receive them is a breeze. They come almost ready to use. My only negative is I wish the RC hardness was a little higher. End grain paring on hardwoods will tend to roll/dull the edges a little quicker than I'd like. (The one thing I like about Japanese chisels - they hold an edge.) I highly recommend the WoodRiver 4 Piece Butt Chisel Set. They are excellent chisels for the price. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I've only had these chisels a few months, but I have been reasonably pleased with the results. Aesthetically, they are beautiful out of the box, nicely polished with handles that give them an "expensive" look. I bought them as a beater set when I caught them on sale, but they look nice enough that I feel guilty every time I use them. They needed to be sharpened, but the edges have held up reasonably well after moderate use in some hardwoods (maple and red oak, specifically). In all, these make a nice set for someone needing butt chisels for a good price, and they look nice enough that they would make a good gift for a woodworker.

These are nice short handled chisels, a style that I like as the short length is more comfortable for me to use and are quite nice for the price, they take a nice edge with minimal effort, and are nice to look at too with nice wood handles. These are hand chisels not for pounding on with a hammer, if that is what you need these are not for you.I can recommend these to anyone wanting a step up from "Hardware Store" quality chisels without cashing in your 401K. Take care of these little beauties and they should last a lifetime. Lap them in and keep them sharp and keep them pristine with a coat of Camilla oil after each use.
