these are over all meh, they work but not well even on my small "desktop" wood lathe, it is one of the smaller proper wood lathe, to start with about half the tips were in need of sharpening, do to the short handle you dont have as much control over the tip, but I think the main trouble is the is the length of the steel over all, if you are holding the tool proper you have about an inch or so of steel past the tool rest (note I switched to my thinness tool rest just to have a bit more steel poking out) this puts your hand way closer then it should be to the spinning wood of harm , this will only get worse as you sharpen themif you have one of the smaller lathe types, like a jewelers lathe or a watchmakers lathe then maybe, those are about 1/3 to 1/4 the size of my desktop lathe, you can just barely fit a pen kit on them if you have a normal lathe, spend a little more and get some proper size tools

This is a nicer set than I really expected at an affordable price. All of mine are uniformly made. I know some had mentioned burrs with theirs, but mine thankfully don’t have that issue. I’m sure them for a small lathe I made with my drill. I’m just getting started with wood working and haven’t invested in a proper lathe yet. These have worked great on my budget friendly lathe though, as well as some hand working.

The 8 pcs set of Urbansential HSS Wood Turning Lathe Chisels with Wooden Box is made for intricate details on larger turnings, or turning tiny intricate projects such as for Pen Turning. The latched wooden storage box is of good quality and the tools fit fairly well in the slots, not perfect but adequate. The tools themselves, well one of the first statements in the description states “Pre-sharpening before use is advisable as it significantly boosts the sharpness of the product.” And that’s pretty much true. I can feel burs on the sharpen edges of most of the tools. You’ll need to hone these first to get a true sharp edge before use. I have read that this is common for most of the chisels in the low to mid-price range. The handles seem to be of good quality and I didn’t find any loosely seated blades. The finish of the handles are OK and the brass rings are tight and appear to have some kind of adhesive used in application. These tool heads are very small and are for very small/ narrow work, and work well after cleaning up the chisel edges. Taking the time to complete the sharpening, de-burring the edges will make these good tools for their intended use.

You can't expect perfection at this price point. These turning tools are very small - only good for pen turning. They also have some inconsistencies in quality of construction. I'm not expecting much from cheap HSS, but these are so inexpensive that I'm fine with it. Good for a beginner.
