These rods arrived nicely packaged in their own individual plastic tubes. I got them for making 4mm dowel pins since they are precision ground and advertised as H8 tolerance (+0, -18 microns). That sounded like a close enough fit for my 4mm reamer. I understand these are intended to be used for linear motion in 3D printers and other automated equipment, but since they are round metal rods they also have other uses. The surface finish is not as highly polished as I had expected. Not like the rods on my 3D printers. They are still quite smooth however. I measured one of the rods at several points along its length with a high quality, name brand micrometer. I was getting measurements between 0.1565" and 0.1566", so the diameter is quite consistent. Converting those measurements to metric shows that these fall outside the H8 tolerance range, with a deviation of -25 microns from the nominal size. These are H9 tolerance. That may not affect your project, but it would add slightly to any slop or backlash in a precision CNC machine. Overall I think these will work for my project but they don't meet the specifications advertised on the product page.
