This needed a lot of setup and upgrades. The frets were sharp, the tuners loose and tremolo with a small block. Yamaha should do a much better job at quality control for a pice tag of $399.

This is my second guitar and I like it a lot. It plays well and has nice build quality. I chose to get this over a Squire because I think it looks better.

Love this guitar. Pretty well intonated right out of the box. Simple tune up is all that was needed.

Buy this guitar. Its a poor mans PRS.I upgraded from a squier that Ive had for years and the difference was mind blowing. The frets are satisfying and smooth, the neck is appropriately fast, and my intonation was perfect out of the box. I wholeheartedly recommend this guitar over the higher priced guitars in this range because of the value per $.

I bought this 212 a few months ago. First impression, wow hardware and specs are really decent. The neck felt great in my hands. I had to minor adjustments for string height and intonation. Otherwise very solid instrument. I play through my blackstar amp with digitech 1000, it’s sounds amazing. Definitely a good buy

I recently decided to start playing guitar again after a 15 year hiatus. I wanted to get an inexpensive guitar but something better that what you find in the starter combo packs. I had a Yamaha SBG500 years ago that I've always regretted selling, so I wanted to get another Yamaha. There are many good things about this guitar. First is the finish. It's beautiful. Absolutely stunning! The Flame Maple sunburst is just luminous. There are no rough edges on the wood, frets or metal parts. The neck profile is thin, just the way I like it and feels great. Kudos to the craftsmen, this guitar is absolutely gorgeous to look at.I also like the tone of the pickups. The bridge humbucker is excellent for nice crunchy rock and roll, and the middle and neck pickups give a round, jazzy feel that is great. The problem is the playability. The action is higher than I expected, and higher than some basic strats I had been looking at. It could possibly be adjusted lower, but again a basic Squire had better action out of the box, so I'm a little suspect. Another problem was tuning. The tuners are nice and smooth, but I had a problem keeping the G string in tune. It could be slipping at the tuner or binding in the nut, I don't know, but it's frustrating. The deal killer for me was when the tone control fell off. I was admiring the finish, and when I turned over the guitar the tone control fell with a thud to the ground. And I don't mean the the set-screw was loose and the knob fell off. The _whole_ post fell _out_ of the pot! Potentiometers are not new technology, there is no reason for this to happen. Quality control should have spotted this before the guitar ever left the factory. So back to Amazon it goes.As I said at the top, I really wanted love this guitar. It is striking beautiful. If you decide to buy one, plan on taking it to you local shop for a proper setup. I am interested in hearing how it turns out.
