Great lighting option for a 20-40ish gallon terrarium. Just remember to replace the bulbs every year or so - they'll continue to provide lighting well beyond that but the UV output will drop off and you won't be able to tell without expensive meters to measure the output.

This thing is straight garbage, it gave up after 3 months. This is my thrid one that gave up prematurely. These lights used to be great but they're junk now.

I took the plastic lid/cover off which was much harder than I anticipated and almost dropped the whole fixture. Obviously I didn't take a star off for that bc that was all on me lol. Nice illumination, but it's not as bright as a led light, which I expected. I use this along with a ceramic heat emitter for my box turtle. She was a lot more active once she sat under it for a bit.

This is the perfect light for my bird cages, just the right percentage of uvb for birds, fairly easy to install in the cage with a few bolts, washers, and wing nuts. It would have been nice if they had included those with the light, but overall it is a really good light for the price. I have ordered several of these and will buy them again if I need more lights.

I bought this light for my blue tongue skink's bio-active enclosure. Though my blue tongue skink does not come out and bask (he is a rare boy that just doesn't like to be out of his hide very often) but this light has held strong for months now. I have this and a plant light on my enclosure (this one I took the plastic guard off the light fixture part so there is no obstruction with the UVB and because its in a blue tongue skink enclosure I have it UNDER the lid) and I have plants growing nicely in it. The photo is with both lights on, no flash. this is a 42x18x20 I think enclosure I custom built and you can see the spread of light is nice with 2 fixtures (the spread from the light on the left back is this particular light fixture) I bought extra bulbs but have not had to use them yet. I DO supplement D3 just in case my boy doesn't get enough with the aging bulb and because he doesn't bask. I recommend this light for anyone that has a reptile needing UVB.

This is okay. Although in its description it states it is for UVB, the problem is that it has a plastic light cover that stops the UVB. Step one remove the cover. Next make sure that the bulb is appropriate for your reptile, if that is what you are using it for. After that you can hopefully set it on top of your cage (I have small wire mesh) because there is no built-in way of hanging or mounting this. It runs cool. It is for a UVB source, not a heating source and will not do dual purpose. My Russian tortoise's appetite kicked into high gear when he started getting his UV. It is also essential for their ability to process the calcium in their diet. If you have a 100% indoor reptile, or one that does not get at least three hours of natural sunlight (not through a window, but direct outdoors), then you need a UVB light.

I've had this fixture for about a year now for my eastern painted. I've noticed that the colors on his shell are more vibrant. Had a little trouble with the first fixture, after about 6 months the on/off switch didn't work normally anymore. I was able to exchange the fixture and haven't had any difficulties with the new fixture.I can't comment on the UV output as I myself have no way to measure this but based on other reviews I think it provides the necessary amounts. Overall it's perfect for my setup and I doubt I'll ever switch to a different fixture.
