Product Description

When you’re hanging items from your drywall, you need to know where the studs are. You also need to know where potentially harmful live wires are. You can figure out the studs easily enough, but to really be sure of your own safety when making holes in your wall, you want to pick up the Zircon i65 StudFinder. It’s as easy to use as your own two hands, but works with greater accuracy! Hold it up to the wall, give it time to calibrate, and run it across the plane. When it passes over a stud, it produces an audible beep and projects a red arrow onto its center point. Its portable design lets you keep this on your person at all times. If you run into problems on your construction journeys, there is an instructional DVD that will tell you everything you need to do. When it comes to keeping yourself safe and your paintings hung right, you can count on Zircon.

It may have found some studs. It’s just not consistent. I’ll mark the spot and come back to rescan and it won’t find the same spot. Not sure I can rely on a tool that can’t reliably find the same stud.

If you’re looking at multiple stud finders and wondering which one to get, let me simplify it for you. 1) Zircon owns the patent for the technology. Thus, that’s who I would go with over the knockoffs. 2) This is the cheapest model that has the LCD screen with stud center finding capability. So between i65 and HD70, since this was a few bucks cheaper, this is what I would go with.Must have tool to find studs for tv mounting, electrical box, mounting heavy paintings, art work, vacuum, etc etc.

I don't do a lot of stud detection with it, but in decorating this summer I used it to know where to put tacks and hang paintings and it works very well. The A/C feature is interesting to detect live wires but I mainly use it go get a general sense of where the electrical lines are. Stud detection-wise though it is spot on and has held up for quite some time!

I had a much cheaper stud sensor that never seemed to work well. When it died, I went to Amazon to find something better, after a brief period of respectful mourning, of course. This model was well reviewed and I started using it immediately to install dozens of shelf brackets and build a permanent workbench. In the instances it wouldn't give a clear reading, I would simply reset the unit and try sweeping in different directions, different speeds, etc. Even when some of the spots were unclear, it still never let me down. I love the display and the red light in the center. I will keep this tool a long time!!

So this is the second stud finder I have used. The first one had no display, DO NOT GET THAT ONE. Terrible. The display is definitely worth the extra 10 bucks I would highly recommend. The live wire identifier works great too.Build is solid, I mounted about 5 TV's so far and it works fine. It feels super plasticky because its mostly plastic but as long as your not using it for construction you should be fine.Accuracy is about... 8 out of 10. I did about 5 passes over the stud and it found the stud 4 times out of 5. The 1 time it said the stud was to the right by a few inches but the previous 4 passes all lined up. Also, if you tap the dry wall you can tell where the stud is and where it ends so pretty accurate.

This stud finder is amazing. It is my third stud finder and I cannot believe how much they have improved. I had a difficult job to accomplish. Finding studs thru a shower wall of ceramic tile. While the signal was weak and I searched several times to be sure it was correct, I hit the studs dead on and was able to install the grab rail safety bar with out any difficulty. I would highly recommend this stud finder even so it cost more than some others. [[ASIN:B000TCY0E6 Zircon StudSensor i65 Center-Finding Stud Finder with DVD How-To Guide]

A lot of people were complaining about this stud finder, I've used many in my days and this one works great. I even tested it on a double sheetrock wall with metal studs and it worked like a charm. It even detected the electrical lines in the wall. I think the most of the problems people have are from moving too quickly or not following the directions. For instance on the double sheet rock I had to switch to high sensitivity mode by clicking the power button twice. After that it found every stud! Best value for the money.

I was looking forward to receiving this stud finder as I've been waiting to hang my plasma on the wall for too long a time. It arrived in the usual plastic packaging, you know the type, where you have to use a sharp knife to open it and almost end up losing a digit in the process.Once safely opened, I put it to task straight away. I watched the dvd that came with it to see how to use it to maximum effect - the dvd was ok but more of a gimmick than particularly useful. The only real thing I learnt was to 'double-click' on the button to choose a stronger scan depth.I placed the i65 near to where I thought a stud would be (based on where an electrical outlet was) and began scanning. First use picked up the edge of a stud, then the center, the laser flashed and the alarm sounded. Great, I thought. That was so easy. Almost too easy. For piece of mind I decided to check for the same stud but approach it from the other side. Again, I started near to where I thought the stud would be and started sliding... SLOWLY. It picked up an edge and then the center again.Unfortunately, this time the center was about four inches to the right of where the first stud was found. For the next 45 mins or so I spent time trying to find the dead center of the studs needed to hang my flat-screened behemoth. Each time with a different result. In the end I gave up on it and decided to use the old "pilot hole and coat hanger wire" method. This was far messier but much faster and provided me with comfort, safe in the knowledge that I was actually hanging my precious baby on solid wood rather then weak drywall. Something of a necessity when living in anywhere near the San Andreas Fault. Some other, seperate issues I found were that the unit itself could be easily tilted in either direction whilst scanning so that it ended up not scanning flush against the wall. This had a considerable effect on the scanning result. Also, I found that if you place your other hand on the top of the unit whilst scanning, to try and steady the tilting issue mentioned above, then this would also affect the scan result. Not good.Reading some of the other reviews, it looks like people have difficulty with textured walls and/or thick dry wall. I have both of these so it looks like I may have to try and return this. Can I really be bothered finding out how to return this for the sake of $30 or will I just keep it in the bottom of the toolbox? Before you buy this I'd suggest you check if you have thicker than normal walls and to also consider the wall texture you will be scanning.
