It picks up nails in wall

This digital stud finder does its job—just not in a hurry. And in my case, not at all at first. The first unit I received simply didn’t work and had to be sent back. The replacement functions, but it’s still not a tool I’d keep in my kit. What It Gets Right:✔ Multi-Function LCD: The display is clear and provides useful feedback—stud center, stud edges, live wires, battery status—all laid out logically. You even get a visual calibration timer, which is better than guessing.✔ Detects Wood, Metal, and Live Wires: It found studs, metal, and power just fine as long as I calibrated immediately after switching modes. On standard drywall, it worked well, but plasterboard gave it some trouble, requiring two calibrations.✔ Audible Alerts Help: The beep tones for stud edges, center, and live AC detection are distinct and useful, even if the whole process feels slower than it should be.Where It Stumbles:❌ Quality Control Concern: The first unit I received was DOA, which doesn’t inspire confidence. The replacement works, but having to return a brand-new tool before even getting started is frustrating.❌ Slower Than the Competition: You have to move this thing painfully slowly across the wall for detection to work properly. Go too fast, and you’ll miss everything. The centering feature is nice in theory, but also sluggish.❌ Manual Calibration Needed, A Lot: Unlike some auto-calibrating stud finders, this one has a calibrate button on the left side that you must press before scanning. If your wall material changes (drywall to plaster, for example), you’ll be pressing that button and waiting again and again.❌ AAA Batteries Instead of Rechargeable: In 2025, it’s hard to justify needing two AAA batteries when so many tools are USB rechargeable. Strike two.Final Verdict:At 3.5 stars, this isn’t a bad stud finder - it works (eventually), but it’s not a tool I’d keep in my kit because of its slow operation, battery reliance, and my experience with a defective first unit. If you’re okay with taking your time and recalibrating often, it’ll get the job done. But if you’re used to faster, auto-calibrating options, this one will test your patience.

This has been great for me as I've done home reno projects. You may "think" you know where the studs are, but it's been nice to have the guide/added protection. This product came quick and was pretty easy to use right out the package.
