I am very pleased with these Zoysiagrass plugs. They were packaged well and arrived alive. They started growing within days after planting and have produced many runners after a few weeks. I plan to purchase an additional 50 plugs soon.

These blogs are great. Sadly many of the blogs were eaten the first week from gazillion rabbits who invade our yard. The plugs that survived the critters are doing great.

We ordered 100 plugs of this grass in the early April of 2023 to fill in a bear area in our yard. it arrived in good condition.but did nothing to improve the yard. I plant them according to the instruction and watered them when it did not rain for 1-2 days. It has been 3 months , most of plugs turn brown and die. about 25-30% still alive, but some of them are still half brown and half green , not growing much. The few ones which grew a little are not spreading. Now the weeds grow all over them. So you hardly found the plugs. Are they really Zoysia? I do not recommend it.

Ordered this twice. Great product. Shipped ASAP and Arrived before scheduled delivery. Would order again. Only complaint would be to wear rubber gloves while planting. Skin started pealing after I planted then. Don’t know if they apply any chemicals before shipping. No problems before handling.

I recently bought a house with a weed infested, mixed grass yard. Not wanting to pay exorbitant prices for a full resod, I bought these hoping that they would eventually creep over the weeds and other grasses.I've owned homes with Zoysia before, and I've seen it take over a yard firsthand, albeit over many years. I was a little unsure about how it would fare in Sacramento since most sodding farms don't carry it locally, but figured it was worth a try for under a benjamin. If they spread, it will surely beat a $10+ grand resod job.I should first mention that this is Zenith Zoysia. It's a wider blade than what I've had in the past, and to be honest, I prefer the thinner blade varieties. I've now come to understand that Zenith and Compadre are the only ones available in plug or seed form. That may come to change, but for now, it's this or nothing.I planted these in early February (temps between mid 40's and 70's) in a staggard formation around the yard. For those that are having trouble with these, I've noticed that there's a high degree of variation in growth depending on where they're planted. For the ones planted in direct sunlight for most of the day (8+ hours), there are noticeable signs of growth after 1.5 months. I also planted some that, thanks to new spring foliage, only get a few hours of direct light. Those have barely grown at all. Fortunately, I was able to replant the struggling plugs in new locations, and they're now doing much better. Bottom line, if the temps are too cold, and they're not getting full sun, they will struggle. A good strategy would be to concentrate these in the most sunny area of your yard and hope that they spread from there. To plant, I used a hand drill with an 2" auger and debrided an area bigger than the plug to loosen the soil. I then mixed existing soil with Scotts lawn soil, and periodically fertilized with Scotts lawn food for new grass. I watered once daily. As a point of comparison, I also created patches of bare dirt mixed with Scotts Zoysia seed (Compadre Zoysia). The Scotts seed barely sprouted at all while these plugs, planted nearby, grew quite well. I'd highly recommend plugs over seed if you want the best results.A final note, despite the fact that these have noticeably grown in 1.5 months, it's still a slow growing grass relative to non-creeping grasses. I'll be interested to see how these compete against the Bermuda that lives in certain areas of the yard. Even though the plugs will take years to fully spread, they get 5 stars because they were healthy Zenith Zoysia plugs that did survive and thrive.

If you're looking at Zoysia Grass, you already know what a great turf type lawn you can have using Zoysia. It feels like carpet to walk on barefoot, it grows slower than almost any other grass type, it has a higher salt content tolerence than most grass types (which means it is more durable to pet urine, but not immune). You also know it requires a lot of direct sunlight every day and it has lower fertilizer requirements than most grasses. It spreads by both stolons and rhizomes (more on this below) so it repairs itself even with moderate to heavy foot traffic. Yeah, I read and researched a LOT before making this purchase, so please take my research into account and....Don't be an idiot - you need to do your part to make sure these grow. Zoysia grass is amazing, but it's not a magical cure all. If you have a spot of 100% bare soil where nothing is growing, the first option is not buying these plugs. The first option is getting a soil test to see why nothing (including weeds) is growing there. Is the soil pH way too high or low? Soil pH drastically effects how nutrients are absorbed into the grass. If the soil is so bad that even weeds won't grow, then putting this plug in will usually mean the plug will sustain itself for a time because the soil conditions in the plug itself are perfect, but the plug will not spread and thrive into the surrounding inhospitable soil until those soil conditions are corrected. So if you want a nice yard, do things in a LOGICAL order - do a soil test first (add info saying you are plugging with Zoysia so the people doing the soil test know what your end result will be), then amend the soil to the proper pH and add the correct fertilizers per the soil test results, and THEN and ONLY THEN put down these plugs. Doing things outside of that order is a gamble and possibly a waste of money and a growing season. I'd suggest starting ASAP with the soil test and amending the soil pH, and adding the fertilizers and such after, potentially a few months after if you're reading this during the winter. You can plant these plugs in the winter and they will remain dormant until the weather warms up and there is enough direct sunlight each day to revive the plugs, but I'd recommend plugging these after you feel pretty secure it is late enough in the spring that you won't have frost. DO NOT use a "weed & feed" type product as many of these contain herbicides that will slow or stop the spread of this grass for several weeks or even months. Herbicides like prodiamine or dithiopyr and similar products are designed to stop or inhibit root development, so avoid these and weed & feed products until your lawn is established. If you do the soil corrections, these plugs will thrive and spread several inches (6-24 inches) per season depending on soil conditions, proper fertilization, amount of direct sunlight received and how long the growing season is where you live. The plugs I received had to be carefully pulled apart before plugging into the ground because the stolons were already reaching out looking for fresh soil to establish daughter plants. If you are not familiar with what stolons are, they are the above ground runners/creepers that Zoysia uses to help spread itself laterally on top of the ground. There are also rhizomes which are under ground roots which grow just below the surface of the soil to help spread the plant as well to create new daughter plants. This vendor is very responsive and extremely helpful in helping you get your plugs established. My first order was severely delayed (shipper error, not vendor) and after a reasonable amount of time they reshipped the order because the original order had been sealed in a box without sunlight or water for an extended period of time. The original order did finally arrive and they were a bit puny from being inside a box for so long with no water or sunlight, but they all recovered and established new growth before the end of the season. But I do have to stress you cannot expect great results if you do not start with a soil test and correct any soil issues you have first. You have to have several hours of direct sunlight each day for this grass to thrive. You have to water the plugs as directed for them to become established. If you want a lawn that can be mowed down really short like a putting green on a golf course, this Zoysia grass can do that if you do your part, but no grass or weed is going to grow if the soil conditions and sunlight requirements are not met. Soil tests can be done at Southern States or at the local county cooperative extension agency. If you don't want to do this, you can hire a lawn company to do this for you. If you kill the plants where you are plugging this Zoysia it will spread quicker because it won't be competing with other plants for nutrients and water. Once you allow this to spread and fill in, you'll be able to take plugs and fill in other locations in your lawn as well.
