This hood support works pretty simple and keeps you from getting hurt by the hood when the shocks don't work very well.

So my hood and tailgate are getting old on my 2016 Jeep Laredo. Not sure how much longer they will last, but to be on the safe side I got a pair of these strut clamps so I won't be surprised with a head banging. Very easy to use, good quality clamps, and on the Jeep I keep them tucked away under the hood in a water tight storage bag. I consider it a good value since they allow me to get maximum use from the OE struts.
