These work great on. Splitting Matt safely. They do not work well on Matt close to the skin

The tip wasn't pointy enough to get under the mats, but if I could figure that out this would have certainly cut through them. It's so sharp it easily cut into my fingernail -- on accident, multiple times while trying to maneuver it.

Great tool to help with my puppy hair issues. I have four dogs and this collected more hair than brushing alone. Pretty much silent so doesn't scare them either.
