After one spring of watching puddles form on my compact clay yard I decided it was time to give the soil a little air. This sixteen inch roller showed up in a slim box with everything clearly labeled, and I had it put together in about twenty minutes while coffee brewed. The three section handle clicks together firmly and at forty seven inches it sits right at waist height for me so there is no stooping. Before my first pass I poured a small bucket of sand through the ten centimeter side opening for extra heft. With the added weight the two point three inch spikes sank in nicely even where the ground was baked hard. I rolled the tool slowly in overlapping rows and could actually hear a faint hiss as trapped water moved down through the new channels. Two laps across the yard took less than a half hour and I was barely winded. The next day a light rain soaked in instead of pooling and the grass perked up within the week. I have retightened two spikes after hitting a buried pebble but that was a quick fix with the supplied wrench. The iron frame feels solid and wipes clean without rust spots. Storage is simple because the roller unscrews from the handle and fits on a garage shelf. Why not a perfect score? The plastic end caps that cover the axle feel a bit flimsy and I wish a spare had been included. Still, for the price and the performance this tool beats the strap on shoe versions I tried years ago. If you want an easy way to open up your lawn and you have a little muscle to push a weighted roller, this is a smart buy.

It didn’t last more than one use. Screws and bolts will fall apart before you finish the first use.

Assembled and almost every screw began to loosen instantly once I put it to work. The screws for making the holes, as well as the screws holding the unit together. Used once, most likely will be in the garbage by tomorrow.

Metal isn’t very thick, easy to bend. The cotter pin came off very easily making the tool useless. Wouldn’t buy again .

This item is poorly designed, in that several of the screwed-in spikes loosen almost immediately when rolling it across my lawn. I had high hopes for this product- especially with it being a good sturdy weight, but was extremely disappointed in its lack of function. It's being returned, unfortunately.

Missing pieces to put it together. After using it only one time for a few minutes, the spikes came out.
