Sturdy handle and collapsing blades make it easy to insert. Blades deploy easily and make aerating a compost bin easy to do. Works well. Thanks.

It seems like I end up having to purchase a new compost mixer tool every year. The ones I normally buy have a fatal flaw which is that the moving tines are riveted to the bottom of the rod and all that keeps them from folding too far is a tiny nub. Over time the rivet wears out and the nub no longer keeps the tines from flopping over. I'm sure they can be repaired but I generally have more important things to do.When I saw this mixer I got excited for a few reasons: for starters they have found a way around the fatal flaw that the other mixers have by having the tines fold out and contact the rod as a stop. No more floppy tines! I also liked the idea of two sets of tines instead of the standard one set. Lastly, I liked the serrations on the tines themselves.Unfortunately by fixing the design flaw that other mixers have, they inadvertently caused a new one... the pole with handle on top and that the tines attach to is round. The tines are rounded to fit flat against the pole and when you insert the mixer into a moist compost pile the compost acts like glue preventing the tines from extending outward as the mixer is pulled up from the compost bin.My temporary solution was to take a couple of large rubber bands and wrap them around the pole at the midway point of the tines so they no longer fully close. I think my more permanent fix will be to remove the tines and flatten them in a vise.Other than that, I like the mixer and hope it is the last one I have to buy.

Bought this for one of my granddaughters who had built her own compose bin…she did a great job. Anyway she had something else to stir with that wasn’t working and I purchased this for her and it works great

Easy to use. Gets down to the bottom of the pile and easy to mix.Haven’t had it long, the handles are soft foam, wonder how long they will last.

This aerator is ideal for compost bins that have limited area for turning composting materials as opposedto an open bed. Years ago, I had a lightweight turner and thought that it worked well. This is heavier with an additional set of flanges, and it is very effective. I am sure that this will give me many years of use.

Very easy to put together, but I would agree with the reviews that the end is not sharp enough to really get through a new compost mixture. I used straw as a base and it just bent the straw rather than really poke through it. I sharpened it with a metal grinder and it works much better now.

Takes quite a few times to do my 1 cubic metre compost bin but it does the job eventually.

There are no instructions for use. I accept that it is a basically simple tool but some general hints might help (eg frequency of use). I have noticed that the two upper flanges do not open out as you pull the tool upwards which diminshes the aerating function. However I haven't had the item very long and maybe a little lubrication may solve the problem so I'll give it a try.Peter Bloomer.

There must be 15 or more compost aerators that pop up when you use the amazon search. Most look goofy, and a bit hard to use. I'm picturing myself wearing suspenders and a red flannel shirt, heading out to turn the pile by hand. Not being the farmer type, but committed to trying this composting thing, I take a hard look at the one turned by an electric drill, before choosing the Bosmere model. A little exercise is good for me right? So it arrives in a day. It gets wrapped and put under the xmas tree, and before you can say "mulch" we are out in the yard poking the Bosmere aerator into the pile. Wow. At first it works great! Those blades fold back, allowing easy penetration into the pile, then flip out when you pull back, resulting in a gratifying huge amount of compost to be sucked up from the bottom of the pile. Over and over. We all give it a try! Great! 5 thumbs up!. Then it happens...The little right angle handle, which is mounted about 6 inches below the main handle starts to loosen up. Hmmm. This is a a good time to mention that the aforementioned little right angle handle does not come pre attached to the main unit. Instead, when you unpack the unit, a small allen wrench and a hardened bolt falls out of the package, and you realize, that a tiny amount of assembly WILL be needed before use. Oh well, no big deal: The parts are all there. The tool (allen wrench) is supplied. The predrilled holes are all aligned easily. In a minute, the right angle handle is attached, and off we go. But, after a few twists of the aerator, the handle starts loosening. No big deal,a few turns of the allen wrench tightens it back up. Then, after 5 minutes of use, it loosens again. More tightening and we are good for a while. Then loosening... I guess you see where this is going. Eventually the "Nut" end, (a fancy circular washer welded poorly to the interior of the handle) tears our completely, rendering the handle nonfunctional. The unit was broken and could not be repaired. Too bad. A great design, ruined by poor manufacturing. Don't buy this unit until the manufacturer provides a much more durable connection of the right angle handle to the main stem of the unit.

I bought this last year and just started using it. We put all our kitchen waste in a small trash barrel to "compost" (i.e. freeze solid) over the winter. By spring it had started to "ripen." I was pleased to find that this tool does a great job of turning the composting material in just a few minutes. The four "wings" seem to grab stuff off the bottom on every plunge, especially with a little twist before pulling it up. I cannot say for sure, but I think it was worth the added expense compared to the two-wing version.I was pleased to find it already composting in early spring. This will make my composting much easier.-Highly recommended if you compost in a barrel and are too cheap to buy one of those rotating units.
