This rug is horrible, it is vinyl on both sides. This is NOT a good hearth rug, it has a shiny finish and looks like crap in our fireplace room. Returning product for refund. I suggest no one buy this rug you will just as disappointed with it as we are.

I got this, hoping that we will never need to test this out with an out of control fire, flame or embers, etc.It doesn't look or feel like it can do the job. That is just my opinion on how it looks out of the bag.It's outer material looks and feels like a sort of rubbery vinyl.It is reversible, and is identical on both sides. It has six layers to it.The sellers post states it is fire retardant, and in another spot states flame resistant, AND in the pictures, it shows three layers are fire proof. There is a difference between retardant and resistant and proof.That being said, it is in front of my fireplace and will be there until it is no longer fireplace season.I wish the posting would be fixed, so it wouldn't be so confusing about what to really expect from this mat. So I am giving a four, because there is no 3.5 and I just can't say three rating.
