Product Description

egyptian spinach

Egyptian Spinach - Rau Đay

A quick growing annual that produces bountiful tender spinach like greens well into the summer. It has a long history of use in the middle east as a super green known for its high vitamin and mineral content.

egyptian spinach plant

Egyptian spinach goes by several names, including Malu Khia, Mulukhiyah, Oakra Leaves, West African Sorrel, Nalta Jute, Salad Mallow, jute mallow, Jews’ mallow, and Corchorus olitorius

Most Egyptian Spinach seedlings will germinate 7 to 14 days after sowing the seeds.

Egyptian Spinach takes 6 to 7 weeks to grow big enough to begin harvesting the leaves. Only harvest what you need leaving the rest of the plant in the ground to produce future leaves.

These plants prefer full sun, plenty of water and fertile, well-draining soil ( pH 4.5 to 8.2 ) and organic compost

Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks in advance, or plant them directly in the garden soil ( ideal temperature for germination is around 77 °F. ). Before sowing, soak the seeds in hot water for a few seconds. Then, soak them in room temperature water for at least 12 hours. Sow seeds into the soil 1/2" deep, 2" spacing. Once each plant has developed 6 to 7 leaves, you can thin them out to about 15 inches.

Wow! I am super impressed! I figured with 3000 seeds that this herbatious seed would have a relatively low germination rate. Because of this I planted several seeds per cell in my planting trays. Boy was I wrong! I think it is likely that every single seed germinated. Super impressed! Thank you to this seller for providing such excellent seed! I was also thrilled to learn that this plant is both an eddible and used to make plant fiber. I and a gardener and a fiber artist, and I am excited to try my hand at making a jute string. 👍👍👍

We purchased these seeds because we like growing our own Molokhia naturally. We planted them within a week after we received them and they germinated beautifully within a few days following plenty of summer heat and rain. The seller was very kind to reach out to us to make sure that we were satisfied with the quality of seeds. We highly recommend these seeds and this seller.

Last year I planted these seeds and they grew but you need three bags at least to make enough, depending on your geography of course and care.
