This is a nice little survival kit. For the price it's really good quality, it's not perfect but for the price a great value. This include all the basics you'll need to it works well as a gift.

Good to have for emergencies but not enough for heading into the wilderness. The knife seems pretty durable. The spork is a spork, a knife, and a whistle. The compass is very cheaply made, not sure how much I trust it.The pen doubles as a glass breaker. It is pretty solid and could really do some damage. The flashlight is just cheap lightweight plastic. The paranoid bracelet with a small compass seems pretty well made. The other odds and ends could come in handy.I'm going to keep this in my car for emergencies when I travel over the cascades.Reasonably priced and would make a good gift.

This survival kit has some well thought out components and a couple of things that could be improved. One nice feature is that it only weighs 1.47 lbs. The box itself is waterproof, but there are no compartments for the individual items so it is all put in there loosely. I personally like my tools better organized. There are no directions, pictures, or explanations in the box either. Also, the description states “Gifts for Men Him Dad Teenager Husband Boyfriend” which my wife took great offense to, since this kit was for her. She is a wilderness instructor and knows how to use all of these tools. So do most of her friends, also female. She said she would not personally buy this set because of this description! The credit card (it is about the size of a credit card) multi-tool is nice in that the card that comes with it has a numbered side for each tool and on the opposite side the numbers are the tool names. It is a handy reference card. The product description states there is a “multi-function map”, but by this they mean that reference card for the multi-tool. The fire starter (magnesium rod and striker) has no instructions, so make sure you scrape off all of the black paint on the rod before you try to use it or it will not work. After that, store it with the rod wrapped in a piece of cloth or in a rolled cardboard sheath so that accidental friction doesn’t start a fire when transporting the kit. The emergency blanket, tactical pen that can smash windows, and the locking blade knife with a cutting tool on the handle (good for cutting a seat belt off) are all good tools for keeping handy in your car in case of an accident or breakdown. The high beam mini flashlight is great, but would be even better if the clip on it was in the opposite direction. That way, the flashlight could also be attached to the brim of a baseball cap and used as a hands-free headlamp. The ‘ruler’ described is on either side of the striker (used for the magnesium rod). One side has scaled measurements as on a map, for 1 to 5km. The other side is scaled at 0-50mm. The spork comes out of its holder, which is also a whistle, and there is an extremely sharp and pointed small knife on the other end. If you look at the pictures on the website, there is one which shows the piece of cordage (that comes with the spork) wrapped and tied around the space between the spork and the knife and then used to stab a cooking fish and pick it up. Since there is a fishing line and hook in the kit, I guess this is a plausible scenario. The folding knife locks when it is opened, and to close it, look for the half circle with the little teeth on the knife. With the blade of the knife facing up, carefully push that little toothed arc to the left, gently push the dull side of the loosened blade up a tad, then move the hand pushing the lever out of the way and slowly close the knife the rest of the way. (See my photo to locate the lever.)If you have never used a wire saw, they are very useful and work really well for cutting branches into firewood, stakes, or other useful items. This tool takes up very little space and is extremely useful for survival.I had to take a look at the website pics again to figure out what the green strap with a snap, hook and loop closure, and a plastic circle was used for. This device is used to attach a small-necked water bottle to a backpack loop. It is a clever device, and could also be used with a carabiner of your own to attach a larger or different type of water bottle. Actually a carabiner or two would be a nice addition to this survival kit, and maybe a disposable raincoat. If you don’t already know this, there is about 8-10’ of paracord in a survival bracelet when you take it apart. The bracelet in this kit also has a tiny compass, a whistle, and a mini rod and striker for fire starting in the clasp. It is a compact and handy addition to this set.
