I am so pleased with this little gadget. It's like the electronic version of a swiss army knife. It does everything you would want in an emergency except boil water.I live out in the boondocks. My nearest neighbor is over a mile away. In the spring when the rains come, I find my house sitting on a little hill surrounded by a lake, which can block all the roads for up to a week. Combine this with an apathetic and unrealiable electric company, and I am often without electric power. That can last anywhere from a few hours to a week. When you are stranded for a week without electric power it can feel pretty isolated. Especially when it comes to keeping a cellphone charged. I've had to resort to sitting in my car with the engine running just to charge the phone enough to call the electric company to yell at them yet again. This little item charged my cellphone from 2% to 98% in a little over 4 1/2 hours - about as fast as my electrical outlets when they have power. It has a pretty decent flashlight and of course a radio so you can tune into any station around, particularly the weather station. The sound quality isn't great - for my fellow antique relics, it's similar to the sound quality of the little transistor radios we all had as kids back in the 60's - a little scratchy but it gets the job done. And it has an antenna to help with FM.It also has a reading light under the solar panel. As noted, you can power this 4 ways - hand cranking, which is a chore but nice to have, by batteries, by solar charge or by USB port (doesn't work if your electricity is down). It even comes with a little compass for trying to find your way out of the woods.I am so happy I got this and I know it's going to come in incredibly handy. It's surprisingly light but feels very solid.

The flashlight and radio work fine, no clue if the SOS function works as if I tested that not in a dangerous situation it could be a crime. The radio tunes with a dial and the sound quality is perfectly adequate for anything you would need it for. It does AM, FM, and WB so it covers most signals that you would need without a HAM radio. Retractable antenna goes to about 3 feet in length. In rural Mississippi I can tune to multiple stations inside of a building so reception seems adequate. My main gripe with this unit is the build quality around the solar panel. Out of the box the solar panel came detached from the top, there was no adhesive under it. The only thing holding it to the unit was tension and the two small wires used to charge the battery. This would be unnacceptable in an emergency situation if you lost power.

The "SOS" function just blinks and produces a siren, it does not convey the Morse letters "S. O. S." There's no way to turn off the siren portion during SOS mode. The solar panel is (like all of these small radios) basically useless. The manual even points out that it's only good for keeping the battery topped off, not for producing usable power. But the other problem is, you'll have to leave the whole radio in direct sunlight to take advantage of even that. So I wouldn't even consider it as a feature. It might help out a bit if you are desperate for every milliwatt. Cranking it while in the sun might help squeeze a little more energy out of it.The analog knob is an interesting hybrid of analog and digital tuning. It is very much not analog tuning, turning the knob triggers channel changing, It's more obvious when using NOAA as there are more limited channels, but it's the same on FM and AM. Not that this is a bad thing, just an interesting design choice. The backlight on the dial is nice and makes it more readable, but it can't be turned off while the radio is on.The sound quality is a bit muffled, not great but functional for voice and low volume music. Oddly, the sound is muffled even when using the headphone jack, so it's not just the small speaker. The radio reception is good, this was on par with other radios in the same part of the house. The flashlight is decently bright.I was able to charge my phone off of it (after charging it's internal battery via USB) at a reasonable charge rate. The crank probably won't charge a cell phone if the internal battery is dead, but it's long enough to be easy to turn and it has a smooth action. Keep in mind that most of these have plastic gears with some sort of lubrication that can break down over time and with heat (cranking for a long period of time will generate heat). So I would not rely on that for any kind of long term usage. The compass is very small, but works. The ""reading light"" is decently bright, but has not option to dim.I like that it has USB C charging and has enough power when fully charged to power a cell phone. It's definitely a ""better than nothing"" kind of device. There is value in having something like this in an emergency kit. It's not an every day use item and I wouldn't want to rely on it long-term, but I would be happy to have it in a power outage. Just keep in mind that it will need to be topped off periodically even if not being used. If you keep medications in an emergency kit, you should probably charge this thing when you replace expired meds.I wish the audio quality was a little clearer for voice considering the intended use for this in an emergency, you don't want to fight to hear important announcements. However, I will say that the NOAA stations were clear and easy to hear despite not being crisp. It was mainly stereo FM stations that sounded muffled. Also strange, is it actually seemed to get a little crisper as the volume went up. It's not perfect, but for a backup radio it's not terrible.

I live in Florida and this radio is a necessity for dealing with the hurricanes. I live about 2 minutes from the ocean and I like to be prepared for hurricane season.

Used this during a power outage. It provided light; the radio kept us informed and entertained. Luckily we did not need to use the SOS alarm but it is very loud. A must have during an emergency.

I am impressed with all the things this unit does. Invaluable to have in the house if the power goes out. This is not going to replace the radio that you have, but it surely has enough features to help you out in an emergency. The ability to charge phones, the light..WOW! Love the cranking feature, yet will still take batteries. Store this in a safe place, and you will appreciate it.
