The quality is so low it does not work out of the box

I ordered this for a cigar box resonator guitar I was building. I knew I was going to be doing some hackery so I didn't want to break the bank with a high end piezo. I am probably not the target audience since it says it is a drop in for a Taylor. If that's your use case, it may work better for you.First, lets level set - look at the price. For the price, it is fine. It isn't going to knock anyone's socks off but the piezo picks up sound, and the controls work as advertised. It isn't going to compete with something from Fishman or LR Baggs but that's not really the same price point. The shielded cable on the piezo is nice. I ended up cutting mine to replace the piezo rod with a wafer style piezo in a puck. A little soldering and some heat tubing later and it worked just fine with the new piezo which got stuck under a resonator cone.Function wise, I really can't complain. Now, for the reasons I took off stars.First, I really wish it came with any kind of templates, or any instructions at all. I had to sit with a caliper to measure the distance between all of the controls, the cups they sit in, etc. The third pot is detached so I had to try my best to figure out the distance between the two fixed pots so I could mimic it with the third. Since I had to drill holes, it was a lot of measuring, re-measuring, and hoping.I really wish the 3rd pot was attached. It was a pain trying to keep it oriented the same as the other two. There is no indication which pot is for volume, bass, or treble. I had to work off of the pictures here on Amazon and hope they were correct. The battery compartment again had no template, so I had to do my best to measure it out, and cut a hole with a Dremel, adjust, cut more, adjust, cut more. The metal cones around the pots are made of metal that will easily strip. My guess is it's cheap pot metal, but again, look at the price. Without a template to know how large of a hole to drill or how far apart to place them they can be extremely tight and hard to get into place, which makes them easy to strip. So overall, it's fine. It isn't perfect. It isn't bad. It'll work if you are willing to put in the effort. You'll need to be a little handy. But if you just need a simple piezo with a preamp, it'll do the job.
