I decided to build a custom guitar and make it look rusted. It was very easy to use, but make sure you follow directions. Because of the processes involved in creating rust/patina you have to wait till some of the layers are dry like it says to do. I am very happy with the outcome!

I followed the instructions explicitly when applying over Modern Masters Metal Effects paints. Two different types of metal effects paint and the same result. It muted the effects and left a shiny finish. I wouldn’t recommend this product.

This is made to go over the Metal Effects paint. Their instructions say you don’t need to protect those paints, but I feel like it needs to be sealed. I like this because it doesn’t alter the colors as much as other clear coats will, but I wish it was flat and not satin.

I used almost the entire 2 oz rust kit on a metal project. The patina looks amazing. Once I finished and handled it, I did not notice the rust coming off, but my hands smelled like rusty metal. That's when I got this product. I probably only used about an ounce total. It looks even better with this top coat applied. Be sure to use a 50/50 mix on the first coat, then full strength on the second.I would highly recommend using this product if you used the rust kit.

I was worried reading the reviews, but I had no issues. I believe most of the negative reviews are coming from people that didn't read the instructions. It does remove the patina if the rust is only surface level which happens if it's aged incorrectly. Also it will leave a thick and yellowy film if it's not thinned with water first. If you read the instructions this stuff is great. My only complaint is that it can be a little too glossy, but nothing that can to fixed with a once over with a scouring pad.

Totally ruined the beautiful rust finish. Looks terrible. I don't know what I can do now, I spent so much money and time on this project! I first watered the seal 50/50. Waited and then applied it full strength per the instructions. UGH!!

I've been using Modern Masters paints for years and like the results I get. This permacote product does a great job protecting their rust finish!

I liked the product and it does stop the "rusting" process, but I would recommend trying the sealer in a small area first or a test piece to make sure that's what you want...for our application we wished we had done that, and it doesn't look bad, but it just had more variation and we preferred the natural look as opposed to it having a semi gloss finish which seemed more like paint than a natural rust.

So far any Modern Masters products I've purchased have superceded my expectations, and comparisons to other products which I have tired in the past. I purchased this sealer to coat my metal leafing projects in my home. Right now I am copper leaving a 6' by 6' window frame which houses a stained glass motif over my bathtub, and on an outside wall. I will use the Modern Masters Patinas in a bottle to add color and dimension to the copper leafing I am applying.I review websites that contractors and artists use to converse over their recent projects for clients, and I pay a lot of attention to the manufacturers they use. Modern Masters comes up as a recommendation often, and the features they describe almost always mean it will be easier to use and/or the end result will be more pleasing than with other products. So I am slowly aquiring a lot of the products to do the various treatments in my home.
