Plastic is very thin and not sure how long this would hold up. Instructions for putting this together are none existent to say the least. My 8 year old could do a better job writing these. Words are misspelled all over the manual. Another thing is that there is no parts list. So trying to follow the installation instructions was not a fun process. I would not recommend this for the price it’s cost.

I bought this unit to assist with my yearly aeration. It exceeded my expecttations...it was quiet, lightweight and efficient. I used the dethatching attachment to remove the leftover plugs and dead grass. I filled over three garbage bags of dead grass. Now the lawn is ready to overseed...also ready to fertilize. Having four 20 volt Dewalt batteries healped. I used all four on my front yard alone...so you will need to have atleast four to avoid stopping to recharge. The dethatching brushes assisted with pulling the unit forward...that was a pleasant surprise. I am extremely pleased with the results.

This is a vine review meaning the product was provided to be reviewed. This product is a 40 v battery powered 15 inch lawn dethatcher. A Scarifier blade roller is also included. No batteries are included. The product is packaged in an illustrated cardboard box suitable for gifting if wrapped.Having had a 120 V corded dethatcher for the last two years, I was eager to test how this battery operated model would compare.Assembly was straightforward and consisted of attaching the handles using quick release screws and two round-handle screws at the bottom. I had to remove the Scarifier blade roller from underneath the product and install the dethatching roller. This was accomplished using the included hex wrench which quickly loosened the single hex screw. The Scarifier roller was easily removed and the detaching roller was quickly installed, the hex screw tightened, and it was done. The dethatching roller on this product is nearly identical to the dethatching roller on my 120 V corded dethatcher. Each has 12 wire stations going across the roller. See attached detailed photograph of detaching roller installed on product.I separately ordered two 5 amp-hour 20 V DeWalt-compatible lithium ion batteries and a charger. The product description cautioned that batteries larger than five amp-hours would not fit in the product. However, there was adequate space around the five amp hour batteries that I think I could have ordered larger batteries. See attached detail photograph of battery compartment with batteries installed, showing space around the batteries.Within the battery compartment is a safety plug so the product can be disabled when not in use. This is a good safety feature if you want to take a break and have children. You can quickly pull the plug and not worry about having to remove the batteries to disable the product. See attached detail photograph of safety plug in its unplugged position.Similar to my 120 V corded dethatcher, the wheels of this product are not powered and you need to push it. The force required to push it is not a lot, and is similar to an electric mower with unpowered wheels. In use, even at the lowest height setting, this product did not remove as much thatch as the 120 V cord dethatcher did. I deducted one star for this. That said, the amount of thatch that was removed was significant and I think the difference between the two products, while noticeable, is not a dealbreaker.I found this product much quicker to use than the corded detacher. It was not necessary to stop working on every turn to move the cord and I estimate the detaching task took 50% less time on short rows and 25% less time on long rows. Basically, the headache of dealing with an extension cord was completely removed from the process, making the task much more enjoyable. I awarded a bonus star for ease of use, returning my rating to five stars.Like my battery powered lawnmower, more than one set of batteries is required for my lawn, which is about 5500 ft.² I think three sets of batteries would be required to dethatch the full lawn.In summary, I’m glad I ordered this product. It did the job to an acceptable level and was much more enjoyable to use because it is not tethered to an extension cord.

This machine is AMAZING! It took a couple rounds with charging batteries to do our whole 1/4 acre yard. But doing it by hand would have taken days!!!! We filled 2 trash cans FULL with dead grass and can’t wait to see our yard look healthier. If you have DeWalt 20v batteries for other equipment just make sure to charge at least 4 so you can switch out when the other batteries die. It takes 2 batteries at a time. I’d recommend mowing first, letting the dead grass dry out a bit and then use this dethatcher. We mowed in the evening and used this dethatcher in the morning. It takes more battery power if the grass is longer. Overall we are so happy with this product and thankfully it’s something we can keep using for years to come.
