American Made Carbide Woodturning Tools Set of 5 with Handles

The introduction of carbide lathe tools has greatly simplified wood turning! With Simple Woodturning Tools it’s all turning and no sharpening so you can start turning as soon as your box arrives. Gone forever is the long learning curve where precise angles and special tool presentation techniques must be mastered. Also gone is the need to master many sharpening techniques before you can even begin to turn, not to mention the expense of all that sharpening equipment.
Simple Start tools with their 3/8" square x 4" length shaft and 8" length handle are very easy to use and perfect for new turners. These are intended for projects with intricate details, under 4" in turning diameter and hollowed to a max depth of 4". They are the best choice for little projects such as pens, tops, small bowls and vases, salt shakers and pepper mills, spindles, finials etc.
Simple Start Tool Details:
- Material: CNC machined 3/8" solid stainless steel (SSSCF is 3/8" round stainless steel)
- Overall tool length: 6.5" - 4" of tool extends beyond handle
- Four tools are designed with a square shaft making it easy to keep flat on the tool rest.
- The SSSCF has a round shaft so it can be presented to the work at about a 35° angle, giving you a superior surface finish with a shearing cut.
- Overall length of tool with handle is 12".
Handle Details:
- These beautiful solid aluminum handles are CNC machined by Harrison Specialties in Ramsey Minnesota.
- Overall length: 8".
- Outside diameter: 1-3/16".
- Opening for tool: 1/2".
- If desired, tools can be easily changed by loosening the two stainless Allen set screws using an 1/8" Allen key (not included).

Simple Start 90 (SS90) - The Simple Start 90 carbide tool is for detail work, can be used for roughing or for square inside corners.
Simple Start 55° Detailer
Simple Start 55° Detailer (SS55) - Works great for cutting a dovetail tennon. Also can be used for fine detail work such as beads and coves in spindles.

Simple Start Rougher (SSR) - Typically the first tool used to quickly rough a block to a cylinder and shape the profile.

Simple Start Turner & Hollower (SSTH) - A great all around carbide wood turning tool that's the simplest turning & hollowing tool to master on the market today. Carbide cutter is 1/2" round with a flat top.

Simple Start Shear Cutting Finisher (SSSSCF) - The Simple Start Shear Cutting Finisher carbide tool provides the very best surface finish of any carbide tool. This is a great all-around tool and can be used on wood, acrylic, epoxy resin or a hybrid wood/resin piece. Often this becomes the favorite tool.

Nice quality. Size is pretty good but maybe a little smaller than I'd like. Good for small lathes and small projects. Handles get cold in the winter and are a little slick. Heavy build and nice finish. The included tightening tools are either the wrong ones or the wrong ones I think they only work on one of the two different sizes screws. Would recommend for a first set of carbide tools.

At first I gave these tools a one star. I couldn't get them to cut. But it turns out it wasn't the tools fault at all. Being a new wood turner I didn't realize that I had bought a used lathe that only tuned in reverse!!! I simply couldn't understand why they wouldn't cut with all the great reviews. Now with the lathe fixed all is well. Thank you Harrison Tools for the fantastic customer support and well made products. I will be buying more in the future!!!

I'm new to the world of pen turning, so had no real background or reference for lathe tools. These were a decent price and had good reviews so I took the risk. They have proven to be outstanding tools for small lathe work. Attached are a couple of pens that I made using these chisels (primarily the round and square ones). They have worked well with hard and soft woods, as well as soft metals like aluminum, brass and copper.It is nice not having to sharpen the chisels constantly like one does with HSS tools. I have no regrets with these tools, and can recommend them without reservation.JeffCarson City, NV

i don't think you'll find a mini carbide set of this quality for this price from anyone else, at least not that i've seen. if you ever wanted to check out this type of woodturning tool, this is just a great deal for a quality tool. i had a set from another manufacturer, and this was definitely an upgrade -- HIGHLY recommended!!!

With the solid aluminum handles, stainless steel tool holders and replaceable carbide cutters - add made in the USA - how can you do any better? The 12" overall length is perfect for my lathe and project sizes. As others have said, stop looking and BUY THESE TOOLS. They didn't come with a case, so I made my own to protect them. Great purchase.
