Good - but very very hard to use I refined more for teens than kids

Might just be me, but I had a hard time getting it to work as it should.

This is an excellent microscope for prepared slides or relatively flat surfaces. The UV light is a nice touch too. This is a great value, and the price is also right if you end up worried about a child breaking it accidentally (or on purpose?), it isn't a huge loss of value, you can replace it easily.The functionality is simple and easy for a child approximately 8+ but this would be interesting and engaging for even 12 or older. Science and nature can be great topics for creative play and exploration. This pairs nicely with other sets with more slides, or blank slides for a child to make up him/herself. The wide range of magnification and zoom work great too.Overall, I highly recommend this product. It's a great gift for kids of almost any age, or even for an adult with some curiosity. Excellent for outdoors, but just as good indoors too plenty of stuff to look at everywhere.

The Child loves it! GREAT GIFT for a 3 year old!

You know, it's not an electron microscope. But then again, you can magnify things- interesting things- far beyond what glasses or even glasses aided by a magnifying glass can see. For a plastic thing... it is very well designed and constructed too! It works! I really like it!Things need to be known. Important things; Like, is that really a tiny bug in my MaltOMeal? Is that really a dead flea that I found in the bed, even though we give flea and tick killing pills regularly to the dog? I’ve never even seen any on him!! Or is it just a tiny piece of vegetative matter? I can’t tell with glasses or even glasses and a magnifying glass!But, the absolutely crucial question is; Is it really true that the signature line on all checks in all checkbooks is not really a line at all, but instead is a sentence of secret, microscopic wordage with great and significant conspiratorial import? Inquiring minds wish to know these things and the answers to countless other questions! Like; What does that cell structure really look like in my Kale? Since I am a gardener and botanist in my own mind, there are many teeny tiny things that need to be explored in excruciating detail, in this regard. Heh.Those little slides of bug parts that come with it are absolutely fascinating too for me AND the chilluns, if somewhat gruesome and scary looking. One might even say, alien and other worldly… and all that spikey hair! Like reading young kids really scary nursery rhymes from centuries past. Ya gotta toughen them young’uns up so they don’t grow up to be Soy Boys and Karen Girls like so many unfortunately have these days! The harsh realities of life don’t phase ‘em if exposed young.The instructions are short, sweet and to the point- and in 4 helpful languages. :) No bad Chinese translations here... But it’s pretty intuitive how to operate it anywhoo. There is a UV light for observing things that can’t be seen in normal wavelengths. A very bright LED that illuminates the heck outa stuff. There is no lack of needed light- especially when using a white background as advised! A large focus dial and a magnification zoom in and out lever- too cool, man. All-in-all, it is a fantastical device! Jules Verne would be very pleased! Do read the pointers in the manual… and the rest of it too, which will take a whole 5 mins.Later on, maybe I will get an even more powerful and complex microscope but for now, this little thang is extremely interesting, sufficient, useful and FUN for both me and the kids! I have discovered a new reality! Another dimension…! Ooooweeooo….. YouTube ain’t got nuthin’ on this little device!Oh, the flea and the bug turned out to be vegetative matter with surfaces like another planet! Whew. I don’t have to get grossed out- only fascinated! As for the secret, conspiratorial writing that is the signature line, (that absolutely cannot be discerned with the naked eye), it’s so true… But I’ll leave it to you to read it for yourself! This thing inverts everything so it was a little hard to read but I did and…I love it!! Cheers!!!

I got this microscope to use in my garden and when I am on hiking adventures. I do a lot of botany and biology work, so a nice handheld microscope is a great tool to have. I chose this one because I loved how fun and colorful it is and that it came with prepared slides to look at. It fits well in my hands which is an added bonus, because I am fairly petite and it is not fun to try to hold something too unwieldy.Overall it is a good microscope, the adjustments are smooth and it is a handy size that easily fits in my backpack. It did make my eyes feel sore after using it to look at the slides, but this may have been because the paper that I put behind the slides was shiny and reflected more light to the lens. However, I would be careful not to spend too much time looking at things under the UV light using this microscope since the regular light was so rough on my eyes.The plastic housing is every bit as bright and colorful as the images portray and it is pretty well put together. It is not waterproof and not perfectly well sealed on every edge, but it is definitely not falling apart either. The plastic itself is not the best quality, but also not flimsy, it is just a little less robust than I would have liked.The least successful thing about this microscope set is the carrying case, it is very cheaply made using thin plasticky fabrics and a foam that is already close to falling apart. It is great to have a carrying case, especially because it is not waterproof, but it would be nice if they stepped up the quality just a bit.Overall there are some high and low points, but it is a good versatile microscope and a decent value for backyard science and exploration.

Gave to five year old grandson for Christmas. He loves this toy!

Birthday present for granddaughter, she will love the pre prepared slides included, as well as making her own. She loves all things nature
