This is zinc plated steel, not galvanized. The coating is extremely thin like you would expect from plating. A light scratch exposes the steel underneath and there were a bunch of scratches when I opened it from the packaging. The metal is pretty thin so I don't expect this to last very long in the outdoor elements. Also, be careful while handling this because there are a lot of sharp edges and corners. I cut myself while taking this out of the packaging.

Upon inspection, I couldn't tell if this was stainless steel or what. The title says stainless steel and thedetails say "rust resistant" and "galvanized steel". Hmmm....It is definitely magnetic and so it will rust.There are sharp edges and that isn't a big surprise. The hinges are sort of cheap but the latch is the cheapest-flimsiest part. It is secured with one tiny rivet and it is loose. I am using this to replace an oldercast iron one that broke from a trauma of some kind.This is definitely the lowest grade of a chimney clean out I have seen. I guess I can drill out the rivet and put a nut and bolt to hold the latch. I might just spend another few dollars and get a cast iron one.Thanks.
