Simplified Guide to Finding the Correct Filter Replacement for Your Pool and Spa Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Identify the Current Filter
Check for Labels and Part Numbers: Look for labels or part numbers on the filter, usually on the end cap.
Find the Part Number: Write down the part number (e.g., from brands like Darlly, Unicel, Pleatco, Filbur).
Step 2: Measure the Filter
Measure Diameter: Measure the widest part of the filter (cylindrical section) across the end cap. Note: Measurements may vary by 1/8" due to expansion or shrinkage.
Measure Length: Measure from one end cap to the other, excluding handles or attachments. Length may also vary by 1/8".
Measure Opening Diameter: Check if the filter has an opening. Measure the hole diameter, ignoring tapers or pinholes.
Thread Type and Size: Identify thread type (fine/MPT/NPT or coarse/SAE). Determine nominal thread size (e.g., 1-1/2", 2"), not actual diameter.
Step 3: Reading a Tape Measure
Scale Basics: Tape measures have 1/16" increments. Longest line = 1/2", next longest = 1/4", then 1/8", and 1/16".

Knowing when to replace your pool or spa cartridge is crucial for clean water and efficient filtration. Here are the key signs it’s time for a replacement:
1. High Water Pressure
-If your system’s pressure stays high even after cleaning, the cartridge is likely clogged and needs replacing.
2. Cracked or Damaged End Caps
-End caps can crack or chip over time due to chemical exposure. Replace the cartridge immediately.
3. Torn or Worn-Out Pleats
-If the pleats are torn, frayed, or look fuzzy, the cartridge can’t filter effectively. Replace it even after cleaning.
4. Crushed or Deformed Cartridge
-A crushed or misshapen cartridge can’t filter properly. Replace it if the inner structure is damaged.
