I actually use these to stabilize the base of a shelving unit made from 4x4's. Since there's screw holes on the base, you can mount these in the concrete of the basement or garage, or for that matter, if you're using 4x4's for a workbench, use them the same way. Really, the use for these are limited by your imagination. If you build it with 4x4's (or larger), these will work. It's a pretty good price for the set, I'm happy with them.

I got these to use to mount 4x4s. I didn't account for nominal lumber sizes and they didn't quite work for me. The picture with 4x4s is a lie. A nominal 4x4 is 3.5" x 3.5". These are over 3.9" wide, meaning they extend past the post. As long as a given design plan accounts for that, and you only use one bracket per post, it will be fine. Since I needed the posts to abut up against something, there wasn't a way to use these for me.Aside from the misleading photoshopped pictures, and incompatibility with 4x4s, this is a solid product. They're very heavy duty and come with hardware both to attach the posts to the base and large concrete anchors to mount the base.
