What is pH?
pH refers to the system of describing acidity or alkalinity of a solution based on the amount of hydrogen ions present in that solution. Ions are nothing but electrically charged particles that have many roles in the normal functioning of different substances. The pH scale varies from 0 to 14; 0 denotes totally acidic and 14 denotes totally alkaline (basic). A pH of 7 is considered neutral (normal water has a pH of 7). Failing of maintaining an optimum acid-base balance results in a considerable diminish in the body's ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients. This in turn can lead to decreased energy production in the cells of our body, altered response to different functions, decreased cell repair and increase the susceptibility to illness.
What is pH Balance?
pH also used to refer the acid-base balance in the human body. Our body should be maintained at a precise pH for a healthy function of all the cells and tissues. Different organs such as the lungs, kidneys and various other tissues maintain the acid-base balance in the human body. Any alterations in this balance can lead to disturbance in the normal functioning of our body. These alterations can result from various conditions or disorders such as vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory failure, kidney dysfunction, diabetes, ingestion of toxic substances and others leading to life-threatening crises. The pH balance of our body can also be altered based on the stress we experience, the diet we follow and our lifestyle.

- For best results, add 2-3 drops of the pH reagent to the sample.

The color is subtle for the chlorine test. Use is in something short and wide like a shot glass rather than, say, a standard 5ml test vial (such as are in the API test kits).The pH test is not quite graduated enough for my likes. For my tropical tank, I want to see how I am doing in the 7.4-7.8 range. It is difficult to figure this out with the 7.0 and 8.0 on the bottle.But, I did not buy i this for the pH test. I really only needed the chlorine test. I would rather have had two bottles of the chlorine.I found the chlorine test strips to be quite pricey. This is a much better value than the strips.

Works fine but colors are not that precise of an indication so I ended up buying a digital PH meter.
