I’m a professional musician and teacher, with decades of experience. Not all of these inexpensive recorders are the same! They look the same, but actually, they are designed and made differently, with contrasting results. The prices are similar, but the quality is not. This recorder is not the best of the cheap recorders you can buy on Amazon. It’s not horrible, it’s ok, but here are the reasons I would recommend the inexpensive Sondery brand instead, which is in the same price range. If you have more money, then Yamaha and Aulos make excellent recorders, but the Sondery is very good, too.I’m not affiliated with any company, so this is an honest review.1. This pink recorder is not totally in tune with itself. That means there are notes that will sound sour-toned in a scale or melody, no matter how well the student plays. The Sondery pink recorder is nicely in tune with itself and in ensembles.2. This recorder, while it has decent tone, is a little more prone to squeaks and wobbles in the tone if the airflow from the player is unsteady, which is typical for a beginner. The Sondery, again, has better tone and better stability of tone, with less tendency to squeak or crack. Parents, this makes a big difference to a child beginner especially, and to your listening ears.3. The Sondery discloses the material their recorder is made of: food grade ABS, which is safer. This recorder brand doesn’t specify the material ingredients. The player puts this inside the mouth, so ingredients matter.4. The fingering chart that comes with this recorder is laughably difficult to use, because it’s upside down, and it’s printed in blurry black ink in tiny notation. The words for the fingers are not lined up with the drawings of the finger holes. This could really discourage anyone, and I could barely understand it, even as a professional. The Sondery comes with 2 clear fingering charts: one is a large, clearly printed and well-designed finger chart and the second is an excellentYamaha brand fingering chart.5. This recorder comes inside a plastic bag which is intended for storage. A cloth bag is better, so that the moisture that could remain inside the instrument after playing can dry out and not get moldy. The Sondery comes with a good cloth storage bag with an easy to use drawstring.6. A plus for this recorder is that it comes with a cleaning rod, and the Sondery does not. It’s not crucial to have one, though it’s nice. These recorders can easily be taken apart, hand washed with dish soap and water, then rinsed and air dried. That works better than a cleaning cloth that can get dirty.I haven’t tried other cheap brands of beginner recorders, except for some clear plastic colored ones sold in the Target toy section, which were the worst. So I can’t comment on all the competitors on Amazon. I have the Sondery, along with better, non-beginner level, and more expensive, Yamahas and Aulos. I’m impressed with the Sondery pink recorder I own, and recommend it.

This recorder is very pink. It appears to be a good basic, plastic recorder. The recorder is a great instrument for kids to experiment with, as it is cheap and easy to play. That said, making great music on it is hard, so I see this as something to mess around with before moving on to a more serious instrument. This one does come with an insert that has notes and fingering positions on it. Many of those notes are hard to do, but it is nice to have some form of directions.

It seems and sounds like a typical recorder we used to get in the 3rd or 4th grade music class. It is a very pretty princess pink and comes with a cleaning rod and paper chart showing the fingering techniques but beyond that you'll need actual song videos/books to learn. It is plastic but it feels sturdy enough, and it comes in a protective plastic pouch to carry it around and keep it together

I’m really pleased with this. It’s exactly as described – they even got the bubble gum pink color representation accurately.I do a fair amount of childcare work, which is why I bought this. It’s such a great way to. Introduce kids to music basics.I like the fact that it’s overall very high-quality – I’m also looking for durability. I won’t know for a year, how well it holds up to the wear and tear of an eight year-old, But I think I’ve got a winner.

This is a decent, cheap recorder for truly introducing a child to different instruments. It's fun, easy to blow and get a sound out of it, and helps one to understand the concept of finger holes. However, I wouldn't recommend using this as a first recorder to begin learning notes and songs.First, it is not very forgiving; unless you have an exceptionally steady breath technique, it tends to wobble and squeak. For my two-year-old, this is great; he loves the wobbles and squeaks. For a young beginning student, it could be discouraging.Second, the basic learning materials, ie, the finger chart for this item, are woefully lacking in clarity and function, especially considering it's presented upside-down.It seems durable, though, and I am happy with it as purely an introduction to the instrument. I feel like it will be able to survive both of my toddlers, but at this price, I won't be heartbroken if something were to happen to it.

Ah, the first recorder! This goes back to the days of youth. We got this for our child who is learning about different instruments. We got this for them to begin their journey with instruments requiring breathing. This recorder is easy to use and comes apart for easy cleaning. The cleaning rod makes it even easier. This is a great first instrument for anyone and comes with a little chord sheet to reference in playing it.It is a little bit big for a child to use easily, but they will grow into it. This also gives us time to learn with them and help them play.
