It may take a while for this boom arm to earn my trust, but it’s off to a good start. I tested it using a video light weighing 2 lb. 10 oz. Since the light was brand new, I was particularly antsy with dangling it on the end of a boom arm—ANY kind of a boom arm, much less one I’ve not used before and never one of this length. The first lesson learned was about my everyday light stand that I thought was pretty heavy duty. Well, it wasn’t and actually crept and creaked as the weight slowly ratcheted up. So, I reached for the most rugged stand I own, and it was up to the task. Moral: If you’re not sure you have a stand as rugged as this arm, you will soon find out, and you will need one. The arm has quality you can see and feel. Everything fits tightly. Retracted, it’s about 22 inches long, weighing 1 lb. 11 oz—about the average size and ruggedness of a police officer’s baton. The knobs and handles are easy to grip and turn and are quickly secured. How secure? I expanded the first two sections (a length of about five feet including the light and handle) and used the enclosed carabiner snap hook to hold a four-pound counterweight. Satisfied with the performance, I steadied the arm as I carefully removed the light which, presumably, had counterbalanced the weight. I expected some movement of the arm. There was none. The grip of the locking handle alone was strong enough to support the weights even without being counterbalanced. The light had merely been along for the ride. Included with the carabiner is an illustrated parts list and a 1/4- and 3/8-inch screw interface to accommodate accessories with either size connector.

tl;dr - Made well and great as long as you mind the weight limitsPros:- Made well and works exactly as designed- Good value for what you are getting and easy to operate- Currently using for a small soft box with a speed light and it has been perfect for my useCons:- None so far as long as you know what you are getting with the weight limits for the various levels of extension

This is quite a versatile and flexible boom arm. First and foremost, it is sturdy, but I would stress that you should not exceed the recommended load bearing limits listed for each length. It's not underbuilt, it's not overbuilt, it meets the specifications listed in my testing...Let's look at some things I love!1. You can mount this to pretty much any stand. It can mount to spigot end of a c-stand, and has adapters to mount to 3/8" or 1/4" mounts as well.2. There is an additional 1/4" mount by the pivot point to mount a battery pack to power your light/device. There is also a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter included.3. Comes with plenty of velcro to secure power cables or XLR cables you may run up the tube.4. All aluminum! I really like that the pivot point to increase/decrease the angle is all metal. No plastic.5. Size! This is super compact, and easy to take anywhere.This went from being a really "nice to have" to a "must have" in my travel bag. I'll often use C-Stands to mount softboxes and flashes like the AD200 PRO or Godox V1 Pro, however, these are big and heavy and impractical if you are hiking into a shoot somewhere outdoors. With this boom arm however, I can easily pack it on my travel backpack with my portable tripod, and tote it along while hiking to a shooting location. Is it as sturdy as a C-Stand? No. But it works great for speedlights and boom mics, and you can take it places you can't take other boom arms. I haven't seen anything as portable as this, and I love it!
