Despite a promising specification sheet, this enclosure cannot reliably sustain high-throughput dual-drive RAID operations, and struggles to meet its claimed 40Gbps performance when stressed — unsuitable for professional or RAID use.Goal:Assemble a high-speed dual-SSD external RAID setup using the ANYOYO 40Gbps enclosure, two top-tier NVMe drives, and premium Thunderbolt cables.Hardware:ANYOYO 40Gbps enclosure with built-in fan cooling2× WD Black 4TB SN850X Gen4 NVMe SSDsCable Matters Intel Certified 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 cablesAlso tested with SOOPII 100W USB-C cables for cross-checkingProcess:Carefully installed and secured the SSDs into the ANYOYO dual-bay enclosure.Connected using certified high-speed Thunderbolt 4 cabling to eliminate cable bottlenecks.Formatted and configured for software RAID on supported OS.Attempted simultaneous read/write and throughput saturation testing.Troubleshooting Attempted:Verified individual SSD health outside the enclosure (passed — no hardware fault).Swapped cables (USB-C and Thunderbolt) to rule out connectivity issues.Power-cycled enclosure between tests.Tried different host ports and machines.Monitored for overheating or fan failures (none apparent).Lowered drive speeds manually to see if thermal throttling helped (no lasting stability).Observed Failures:Random drive disconnections under load.RAID array desynchronization events.Inability to sustain full 40Gbps link under RAID load.False advertising about Thunderbolt 4 support — worked as USB4 only for many operations.

Construction is very solid - and it's the perfect size for my mobile music performance gig. Even though my m.2 NVMe drive was not listed as a recommended option, it works great, with well over 2600+ MB/s read & ~1300 write. (using SK hynix Gold P31 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen3). I appreciated the manufacturer including 2 sets of screws (2@ sets of 4 screws to enclosure cover, and 2@ screws that secure the NVMe drive in place). NOTE - description says "tool free and screw free" but this is not the case for this particular enclosure. I suspect it was a copy/paste error where they may have used description text from a different model as a template for this device. Manufacturer also included a thermal pad, which is a nice touch. However, my only "complaint" it was one of the thinnest pads that I've seen, and so would not make the "connection" between the drive and the housing cover in order to promote heat transfer. Suggest to the manufacturer to include a couple different thicknesses of thermal pads. Thankfully I had some extras from another manufacturer and was able to complete the installation. Great product overall!

Instal of SSD was relatively simple and straight forward. Solid aluminum enclosure fells solid but light weight. It seems to dissipate heat well and have not had any issues in running it for the last two months. This is my first time buying the 40GPS enclosures and I was not sure the are with the money. There was a sales and I decided to at least try one. If you are looking to boost your speeds dramatically, this enclosure will do that. It is super fast. I am getting over 2800MB/s write speeds and over 2700MB/s read speeds as measure by the Blackmagicsesign app. I have this connected to the USB-C of my Mac studio and the files are encrypted. On my previous 10GPS enclosure the encryption made a huge difference in the speeds I would encounter. Did I mention that this thing is fast?Would recommend highly if you have the extra money. Not sure why they are more expensive... but it works great.

Do NOT use BlackMagic Disk Speed Test -- It's hot garbage, and will falsely report slow speeds after a few minutes time due to its own inability to pump data to the drive. Use AmorphousDiskMark, or Aja instead.Setup: M2 Mac Mini, using this enclosure with a Crucial P3 Plus PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD rated at 4800MB/sec. A 40Gb/sec connection will give you, at most, 5GB/sec throughput. With overhead, realistically, I would expect at best a little bit higher than 4.0-4.5GB/sec, maximum. When pushed full-throttle, this solution delivered a sequential read speed of 3.1GB/sec. For most heavy tasks, you can expect throughput north of 2GB/sec. No volume disconnects were noted during testing.Takeaways: When it comes to using an Apple Silicon-based Mac, don't bother with USB 3.x-based solutions for external NVMe--every solution I tried (4 of them!) resulted in random volume disconnects under heavy loads due to Realtek's crappy chipset. Go Thunderbolt 3/4 or go home, the additional bang is well worth the buck.

Good and solid aluminium enclosure, with what appear to be high quality components and a sturdy heat management system. I have used it for a couple of days now and have not seen significant overheating: no matter the level of use, the enclosure becomes warm but never so much that it cannot be touched or moved.Sadly, it looks like this is at the cost of speed, as it peaks at underwhelming write speeds of 1300MB/s and read speeds of 2400MB/s on an encrypted drive. A far cry from the expected 40Gbits/s (approximately 4800MB/s).
