**EDIT** They made it mostly right by refunding part of the cost (which was more than shipping they asked for).Ladies and gents, DO NOT BOTHER! I repeat, do not bother to purchase these struts. I bought these 9 months ago in August 2024 and from the very beginning they did not work as advertised. The struts held my rear hatch up but FAILED to lift them like factory. This was one of those, "you get what you paid for" situations and I was simply going to just say screw it, they hold the hatch up, keeping them on is easier and cheaper than taking the time to remove them, have no working hatch, and returning them. Fast forward to May 2025.The c-clip on the end of the barrel that goes through the top of the strut and the bracket on my hatch failed. I opened my hatch and it shot the barrrel out into the garage. When this happened, the strut came off the bracket, the weight of the hatch came down, the end of the strut then lodged itself into the top corner of my hatch causing damage. People, this is a 25 year old 4Runner, I use it daily and don't care too much about small damages. I start looking for a replacement and decide to read the ad and come to find out, ONE YEAR WARRANTY! Heck yeah! All I want is a fix so I have a working hatch again. I email and this is my response AFTER I show proof of failed parts and damage, and only asking for a warranty replacement. This part is $30. It's not the cost of it, it's simply the right thing to do. I'm just gonna take my chances on another company."Dear Eli, Thank you for your early response. We are deeply sorry for any unnecessary inconvenience we may have caused you. Here are our solutions for your reference: 1. Return the defective product for new replacement. As your order has exceeded the 30 days free return period, so there is a return shipping cost if you want to return the item. 2. Considering the return hassle, we could send you a set of replacement without any return if you could cover the resend cost of $16. This is because we could cover the product cost for you but it's hard for us to waive the shipping fee which will be charged again by the shipping company. If you choose option 1, here is the detailed return instruction. a.For the contact name on the waybill, please write: RMA Department +18436338. Our warehouse staff will clearly know this is return shipping and which shipment is returned; b.Return address: C/O 14310 RAMONA AVE, CHINO, CA 91710-5739 c.Please keep the barcode on the box clear and readable. Please kindly provide us the tracking number when its's avaliable. We will send you a new one after receiving the return. Look forward to hearing from you soon. Best Regards, Frank"Integrity, NONE. Look elsewhere folks. This part never worked as intended to, which was not a problem, but FAILED on me and the weak attempt to resolve it and PAY for shipping to send a warranty replacement on a part that failed. It's the point of the response that annoys me. I'll take my chances elsewhere and pay a little more.

Installed very easily and did exactly what then are supposed to do - hold the tailgate open. These replaced a pair of tired, worn out 25-year-olds (1998 4Runner) that couldn't do the job any longer. Removal and installation requires removing and installing "C" clips which can be somewhat tricky: it's too easy to have them fly off somewhere when removing, and you have to be equally careful (i.e., go slowly) when reinstalling. You'll have to prop the tailgate open somehow during the uninstall/install process.

Over the years my one owner 1999 4Runner SR5 has been a trooper but the last 7-8 years the tailgate does not full rise due to the hydraulic system failing. Did not want to buy the OEMs for the high price and opted to try these, which worked out great! They are much skinner in tube diameter but full lift the tail gate up like new. Most people are wondering about the baseline needs and I’ll note them here:-Easy to install-has all the parts to install-does not need special tools (but it helps to have a C ring/washer pliers)-lifts the gate up-one con is that it does not fully lift the gate when the back window is rolled down. I have not done it in a long time but I remember the OEM ones did. Not a big deal for myself.

Installation was easy, product feels robust. Was missing the rubber gaskets that prevent metal on metal contact between the strut and the door (mine disintegrated when I removed the old strut). Door opens at a standard speed most of the way when unlatched, but needs a slight push to get it into the fully open position. I don't have any accessories attached to the door and was hoping these would open the door faster and further without help.
