Had to replace the dehumidifier in my crawlspace almost a year ago. My hvac tech son told me Aprilaire was the way to go. I have it set up with wifi monitoring/control which is great as we are only there partime and keeping an eye on it gives me piece of mind. It is very quiet and the tech support people were very helpful in selecting the correct size and wiring up the wifi thermostat/hygrometer. I didn’t even need to bother my very busy son to help me with it.

Photo shows a display of heat and cool number, and instructions say this "AUTO" mode is available (if setup in installer menu), but when you select heat/cool mode in installer menu, you still do not get it. We tried absolutely every option and the unit will NOT display the heat AND Cool numbers in an auto mode configuration. Also, the installer menu is virtually impossible to enter. After you enter settings, you hold the up and down arrows for 3 seconds, but it never works; it changes menus and acts as if all the buttons are being pressed, and perhaps, because the buttons are rather cheap and un precise, that's what's happening. It also fails to pull temp data from the internet after connecting to WiFi.

- Only after setting up the device you will notice that it only shows the relative humidity.- Even when I turf of the device remotely, the dehumidifier keeps working!

Features of the device are accurate to description. Installation instructions and execution is less than expected from vendor for a “smart” device. The Wi-Fi connection was not easy and left room for errors. Device seemed to do a firmware update without warning. Programming has modes which cannot be deleted (away/return) which creates added steps that could be remedied by simply allowing for their removal.

I live out in the woods and wanted a WiFi thermostat with the option of the actual outside temperature and not some number from a nearby town via the internet. This model has the option of a wireless (30' max) or wired temperature sensor. As this model replaced a none WiFi thermostat, I had all the wires in place.I was fortunate to have the thermostats wired with three wires even so the previous thermostat only used two.WiFi range is the usual, in my situation the router is at least 100' away from the thermostat and there are also two walls and two stacks of firewood in between. This model does not have a QR-code to simplify the WiFi connection setup and I struggled a few minutes to get it running. This is a minor imperfection I encountered. Once it was running, it was/is very stable and it never dropped the signal yet.Downloading the App to control it with my i-phone was a breeze! The App can handle multiple zones, even different buildings if necessary. The App displays which zone you are controlling, the actual room temperature, the set temperature, the outside temperature, whether the thermostat is calling for heat or whether the system is idling (no call for heat), and mode of fan if you have one. The App also allows to change lots of settings, change the display from Celsius to Fahrenheit is just one of many. The App also allows to set alarms which are triggered if the the actual temperature is higher or lower as the set alarm temperature. It also allows to set min. and max. temperature for being away which can be initiate or cleared with the simple touch of the screen on your phone. The App also shows whether the thermostat is connected to WiFi and even the strength of the WiFi signal. I also like the design of this model and the simplicity of operation. The display dims itself after touching the controls. The time is controlled over the internet and switches automatically between daylight savings time.I'm sure you see that I love this thing! I'm away from home for days at times and had the choice in the past to heat the house and waste energy, or come back to a cold house ... no more! The uncomfortable not knowing in the winter whether the heat works or not is gone too.One last thing; if you do not have three wires, there is a simple solution around it. Just buy a 24 Volt 10VA little transformer you power with 115Volt AC you will have nearby and you are all set! The third wire is just needed to power the thermostat.Update, November 21, 2023:I bought two more as I have three zones in my house. Installing the two additional thermostats made me rally familiar with these. First, I struggled with the wiring of the outside temperature sensor. I had to replace the Honeywell temperature sensors (model C7089B) with the AprilAir sensors as they are not compatible. I did this while the thermostat was powered on. To my surprise I received an email from AprilAir notifying me that the temperature sensor was not working! This is very helpful as you get notified if there is something wrong. Eventually I was at the point where I was doubting that the thermostat was not working wright. I just pulled the thermostat from its base plate and exchanged it with another one I already installed. All the information stayed in the thermostat, it went online all by it self and showed me that this thermostat showed the error code too. I confirmed that it was my wiring and not the thermostat by simply changing the units!I have an I-phone and the app lets you chose the location - I only have one, my house but you can have more locations - then you can chose between the zones - the app gives you choices like "whole house", "Bedroom", "Hallway", and others - but you can not make up your own names. Each location is shown with a blue rectangular on your phone with the name of the zone, temperature at the zone, and whether the heat is calling for heat or whether it is idle. Once you tap the blue rectangular of the zone you want to change, the phone shows the actual temperature again, outside temperature, relative humidity, the set temperature of the thermostat, up and down arrows to change the set temperature, the little cog wheel to go into settings, the icon to change the heat/cool/off setting, and the little fan icon to change the fan setting. Everything is very intuitive! Eventually I gave up on the outside temperature sensor on one of the thermostats as the wiring inside the wall was damaged. The thermostat still showed the error message and I wanted to change the settings to "temperature from the internet." To do this I needed the instruction manual as once you went through the initial setup procedure these settings can not be changed unless you touch certain spots in the right sequence. This is also very smart, as you do not change any settings by accident and the settings you need to be able to access can be accessed easily.I do not program the thermostats for reoccurring temperature changes on a daily basis as every day is different in my life, but you can do that too!I have not experience with other WiFi thermostats but after extensive research of all the thermostats on the market today, I chose this one, the AprilAir Model S86W MUPR and it does all and more than I ever dreamed of!
