1 star is being generous. The compass only works in opposite world where north is south and east is west. It's not the vehicle electronics affecting it as some suggest because it doesn't work anywhere. I should say that it did work once when I held it above my head with the dial at a slight downward angle. So, in a vehicle, it (might) only work when you can't see it.
