This nearly opaque filter looks dark purplish when held in front of a light source and blocks the visible spectrum up to 650 nm. It passes only 50% of the radiation just below 700 nm and from 730 nm to 2000 nm, transmission is greater than 90%. As the sensitization of IR black + white films barely extends beyond 1000 nm, the red portion that is transmitted still makes a relevant contribution to the exposure. The filter factor is in the range of 20 to 40 but largely dependent on the illumination present and on the characteristics of IR film or IR blocking properties of the sensor.

An excellent filter, like all B+W, the brass ring and threading is built to last and the optics are flawless, used with Canon 7D, and Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens + step up adapter (this has a 72mm tread), Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X116 Pro DX II Digital Zoom Lens

I am still working on getting my first infrared shot using a Canon 7D. So I am not an expert in any way. I'm not even a notice at this point. This filter is not as good as the 720nm filter (Hoya RM-72) for the Canon 7D. The best image I made using the B&W 092 was not IR. It was muted colors with bright sky and dark grass. Using the same technique with the Hoya RM-72, I got a better test shot. After the color swap, the grass and trees came out yellow, and the sky was a dark gray (almost blue) using the Hoya. All colors were still muted, but the results were better than the B&W 092.I think B&W 092 is between 650nm and 692nm. Hoya RM-72 is between 680nm and 720nm. It's possible that a better result for the Canon 7D could be found above 720nm.
