Bahco call the cut pattern ‘Oberg’. It is not exactly a traditional single cut Bastard, but also doesn’t look to sport the usual diamond double cut pattern. Whatever it technically is…it works really well..You can feel the teeth biting aggressively into the filed material..though I have only tried mild steel so far. The file has a nice parallel profile across the blade and down its length. The plastic handle is firm and non slip..Although a bit pricey at 26 Quid, it is at the higher end of quality files and I think well worth it.

Looks like a quality tool. Contrary to what the description states, it's actually made in Portugal.

I had expected to spend my last days here in Alcatraz. Imagine my pleasure to find this lovely flat file in the cake my wife sent me for my birthday. She must have really paid the guards off to get it through security. I hope she didn’t use my bank robbery mone…err retirement fund. This beauty cut through the bars on the window like a dream! In one single night I was able to file my way through not only the window bars, but two fences! Now if I can just find the rubber boat she said she left by the shore. It’s for fishing. I swear.Oh, it also cut really well on several axes I was refurbishing. A couple of the big box files just skated across the edge and did nothing. This one bit in like the axe was made of cheese. If you need a high quality file and can’t find a “New Old Stock” from the golden age of files, buy this one. You will not regret it.Disclaimers: No Alcatraz windows were harmed in the writing of this review. The author has never and will never rob a bank, even though most of them rob us daily. Have you seen the fees they charge? Sheesh! Fishing in rubber boats not recommended. Do you know what hooks do to inflaty things? Anyone know the actual dates of the golden age of files?

I bought this for a little kitchen remodeling project; specifically cabinets. This file looks really agressive and rough, but leaves a smooth polished looking finish on hardwood. It worked very well for smoothing out uneven areas and burrs after cutting along the grain with a saw. It wasn't so picky about the angle compared to single or second cut files; as long as you make straight passes. It left a much better finish than a rasp would, but doesn't remove material nearly as fast. I haven't used this on metal yet. If you were to use this on metal, it needs to be pretty solid and secure to avoid bouncing. 45 degree angle passes help a lot with keeping everything neat.

I’ve been using it to sharpen old axe heads, they are tough, but it cuts them

I have always bought cheaper files and I thought for once I would try a good one. What a difference!

This is my new favorite file. I’d never even heard of an Oberg cut until I found this one but now it’s my go to. I’ve used it primarily on O1 and mild steel, but have also used it on hard maple and beech. It cuts aggressively with heavy pressure and smoothly with light pressure. It cuts MUCH faster than far coarser standard or double cut files while leaving a nicer surface. The same edge is a must have. Why aren’t ALL files Oberg cut??

The usual performance plaudits can be made of this product. Not cheap, but if the job is worth buying one at all, then bite the bullet, it will last for many years of good service.
