You can see spots in the filter where there's little or no gauze. I drive country roads and can't afford to rebuild my duramax, so I'm gonna stick with the wix filter. These are made for highway driving only, with no dirt in the air...

The stock system is designed for “extreme” conditions and is very constrictive as far as air flow is concerned. I installed the Banks Ram System on my 2006 Duramax-LBZ, motor ran with much less effort than it did. Less working load on the motor and you can hear it. On acceleration the turbo spools up so much quicker RPM's are smoother and the engine runs with no effort. If you run with or without an engine tuner you will feel the difference. I run a Superchip 2805 on the performance mode and the results are amazing. The black smoke that used to pour out of the exhaust on acceleration (showing that the fuel is not being burned) has all but disappeared. If you have a tuner of any kind, Banks Ram Air System is a must. And yes it is smog Legal it has a C.A.R.B. # D-161-81 (California Air Research Board)

Some people will tell you that this system is no better than any other cold air intake. I think it really does make a difference. I installed mine on a 2007 Duramax-LBZ, and I have to tell you the motor ran with much less effort than it did a half hour earlier. It pulls up the 1 1/2 mile hill I go up every day with less working load on the motor. On the highway on ramps, the motor spools up quicker and the RPM's seem smoother and once I reach my cruise speed it just settled in and RPM's dropped and it seemed to just run with no effort and purred. I have installed this system on several of my prior trucks and have noticed a difference in each and everyone. Do I wish they were a little less pricey, yes, but I remember $ .33 cent a gallon gas when I was a kid also. So yes, I would recommend this product to anyone who has a diesel application. I have pulled my stock trailer with 4 head of Angus recently with this kit installed with no other mods, and it does pull better. "Pull better" is a little hard to describe unless you know your truck, but I know mine and I am happy. I don't like to spend money on things that don't work. I'm happy I spent the money on another fine Banks system.

Very easy to install but still no earth shattering differences noted but it looks nice. Also purchased the Super Scoop but my tire rubs on it when I turn left.

I was able to install the ram air by myself in about 30 minutes, the directions were great except there was a plate behind my headlight's that i kept getting stuck on. I am very happy with this product and would recommend it for anyone with a chevy duramax
