I am somewhat of a newcomer to sax playing. I have had an alto saxophone for 4 months now. I completed an online class at udemy.com and can play about a dozen songs so far. My experience with cane reeds was not pleasant for me. I hated the taste for starters. Didn't like having to wet them. Started out with a 1.5, went to a 2.0 and a 2.5. Seemed like every cane reed was different. I used Vandoren blue box and Rico Royal. There would be 2 or 3 out of each box that I got much better results with. So ended up throwing a few away. At $3 each, though not a lot, it still bugged me.I now have 3 of the Bari synthetic reeds, S, MS & M. Using the M most of the time but on some mouthpieces I do better with the S. Anyway I will not be buying anymore cane reeds. I absolutely love these Bari synthetic reeds.
