These blocks are soft and easy to carve, as advertised. I like the assortment of sizes, it’s great for my 11 year old who is just trying his hand at this. They are all small and fit in your hand easily. This is exactly what I was looking for.

This set comes with plenty of small blocks to carve. The wood is soft and easy to cut. It's free of defects such as knots, with uniform grain and color. I'd say it's a good value for the price.

These basswood carving blocks are high quality, smooth, and easy to carve. The wood has a consistent, even grain and color, which makes for a satisfying carving experience.The smaller blocks are perfect for quick or on-the-go projects. However, I do wish there were a better variety of block sizes in the set. With only four larger blocks and twenty small, thin ones, the distribution feels a bit unbalanced. A few more medium or larger pieces would make this set much more versatile, especially for those looking to work on more substantial projects.Overall, it's a great choice for beginners and hobbyists alike, but a more thoughtful size assortment would take it to the next level.

Basswood, because of it's uniform grain pattern and softwood texture, is the PERFECT wood to learn how to carve on. This is a HUGE set of blocks, all cut to be square, and in all kinds of different sizes. They are true and actual basswood, and carve LIKE BUTTER. Makes them just a pleasure to use. These are the kind of blocks that make carving and whittling so easy you can't help but fall in love with the hobby. Thanks, well done...

I picked up this pack of basswood and another, smaller pack of balsa to get started in wood carving.I love the array of sizes received in this package - it is a good value for the money for the number of pieces you receive (especially with the coupon currently available!).All of the pieces were in perfect shape when they arrived - exactly as advertised. No nicks, dings, etc.This wood seems a tiny bit more challenging to carve at first glance when compared to the balsa, but still very easy for getting started! I look forward to honing my skills using this set.These wood pieces also sand very nicely. It might be a good idea to apply some kind of sealant to your finished pieces if you're planning on painting them in any way - the wood seems very absorbent.
