When you have a pile of brush to break down into biodegradable yard waste bags, this thing saves your hand from fatigue and cuts through bigger branches than you would do manually. I like the fact that it's colored to match the rest of my Makita tools. I like that it recharges using a USB -C plug. I have no idea how long a full battery charge would last but I've used it all day and barely used a quarter charge, if I'm reading the indicator right. I'm glad that I made this purchase.

I got the Red 714 model. It works well and makes cutting the saplings around the base of the trees much easier. The battery lasted quite a while and I put it back on the charger cable without even having it lose power after a day of trimming small branches and saplings. It's not as fast as my pruning loppers or shears but it is much easier on the hands and arms to use.

The instructions that come with it are too minimal and not clear and appear to be machine translations from another language. The pruner works well and is strong enough to handle any branch that you would normally cut with hand pruners and more. The blades are thick so I am not worried about them bending or deforming while pruning.

I got this because our maple and pine trees are constantly overgrowing everywhere and I trim them every year.First, the unit is heavy, which in this case is good. That means the motor and the gears are at least made of something substantial. The rubberized grips feel OK and it overall feels solid. However, the battery, being the same size as a name-brand 18 volt cordless drill, is really light and feels cheap. The charger also feels cheap. You connect it to the battery with a standard DC barrel connector, and thankfully the charger has an LED on it that goes green when it's charged. The little screen with the battery percent and number of uses is a neat touch. The trigger is a bit goofy at times like it doesn't want to operate when squeezed. It cuts through 3/4" branches easily. The jaws of the cutter are thick, solid, and the blade is nice and sharp. I don't see this possibly breaking for no reason. It makes the job a lot easier than using traditional hand pruning sheers. It comes with what looks like a sharpening stone and an empty dropper bottle. I guess it's for wet sharpening the blade? Or maybe the bottle is for oiling it? The user manual makes no mention of them.Time will tell how reliable it is. As it stands now, I'd recommend this to others who are looking for an easier way to trim lots of branches.
