I checked it with a magnet and this is real steel. The magnet thunked onto the anchor and held tight.I tested the anchor in my sand/clay soil- mostly sand. It was not hard to twist it into the ground but I learned real quick that I had to keep steady downward pressure on the anchor as I turned it, or it would just dig the soil up instead of drilling down into the earth. I twisted it down to the point where I could not move the anchor up, down, or side to side. This will work great to hold my shade umbrella while I'm doing various DIY yard projects this summer, and it's built very solid so should last forever.

This screw anchor/base feels heavy duty. It's easy to install, low-profile, and is sturdy in the wind. It comes with three sleeves to accommodate various umbrella pole diameters, and a removable screw bar that can be stowed after installing the anchor. I used this to anchor an umbrella in my back yard, providing afternoon shade for a fruit tree against the brutal summer Sun.One downside is that it only has one tensioning screw. Many bases have two, but this just had one t-bar screw to secure the umbrella in the anchor. That being said, it is heavier-duty than some bases that only utilize screws with plastic knobs. I made the umbrella more secure by first tightening it in the base, then removing it. I wrapped the umbrella pole with duct tape around the area where the tensioning screw mark was. This provided more friction, and helps to prevent the umbrella from loosening during high wind.I was surprised by how sturdy the anchor is, being that it was so easy to screw into the ground. If you're trying to secure an umbrella in dirt or sand, this seems to be one of the easiest and strongest options. It screws in almost effortlessly, and I'm sure it will be just as easy to remove if necessary. For ease of use and durability, I highly recommend this anchor.

I ordered this umbrella anchor for use in my backyard lawn. I found it to be very heavy duty. The metal is thick and the construction is solid.I like that I can place the anchor in a proposed location and just twist it into the ground with a few turns using one hand. The end that goes into the ground is pointed and the threads are smaller near the slender tip. This lets me judge placement easily because it stands upright.I found it is important that the ground is softened with water ahead of time if it is hard and dry at the location the base is to be installed. Once the ground is ready, it is not difficult to screw the anchor into the ground until it is fully seated. The long bar handle gives me good leverage to turn the anchor with both hands, ensuring it goes into the ground vertically. If needed near the end of the process, I can use the entire length of the bar to get maximum leverage.I like that this umbrella anchor is very strong and can be removed and reused. I am happy that there is no need to dig up my lawn in order to install a permanent base. When this anchor is removed from my lawn it is hard to tell where it was installed.

Oh my gosh -- I cannot believe how strong and well built this umbrella anchor is! It far exceeded my expectations especially at this price. It is an amazing deal!!!This umbrella is very heavy and weighs almost 3 pounds. It is made from plated steel (if that plating scratches it could rust so I plan to paint any scratches if they occur). The instructions state that if it gets salt water on it that it is important to rinse it with fresh water to prevent corrosion.This anchor is large. The screw end measures about 8.5" and the top end is about 8" long which is nice as that means that the umbrella poll can go deep into the stand for stability. It can accept umbrella polls from 1-2" in diameter. It is easy to remove the first two black plastic sleeves to adjust for larger polls. But the final black plastic sleeve is tricky and it took two of us to remove it as it has tabs on either side that has to be depressed by a screwdriver or narrow tool while the sleeve is removed. The other tricky part is that the sleeves have to be lined up to accept the screw that tightens the umbrella poll to the stand.This anchor functions really well! It can be screwed deep into sand or soft soil to stabilize an umbrella. A lot of people don't realize it but an improperly installed umbrella can become very dangerous in windy conditions. When we first moved to the shore there was a woman in the area that passed away after being impaled by an umbrella in the wind. Securing umbrellas is serious business. I am really grateful to have a tool like this heavy duty umbrella anchor to help keep us and other beachgoers safe.

Let me tell you - this thing exceeds my expectations! Very pleased to have the opportunity to review! Super heavy, quality heavy-duty design that isn't going to provide a disappointing experience. We are using this for Florida beaches and it is easy to drill into the sand and provides stability for the duration of your day. We used this as a replacement for a product that was constructed of composite plastic with fold down handles. Those handles over time have began to buckle, but there is no way that should happen with this unit. We opted for the stationary welded hand bar. Really wanted to try the removable handle, but felt that would be a problem because it doesn't stay connected to the base and just another part to loose or keep track of. Not a huge issue, but I really wish the plastic inserts to adjust your post size had a way to lock into the base. They freely slide in and out cautioning me again for lost parts. I think that problem could be resolved by packaging in a simple carry bag which could be included. Overall, a great product without any hesitation to order again. Nicely done!
